We appear long and lean. Seem to have the ability and desire to play some excellent man to man defense. Why does this athleticism not translate to getting good shots? Is it poor shooting or an offensive system that is stale and poorly structured
None of our guys can really shoot off dribble or attacking the rim. Defenses just close out on jump shooters and don’t worry much about someone creating. Lately even open shots have been bricks and everyone is in a slump it seems. We’ve seen Bette from Law and Pardon and the stats suggest a lot of other guys are shooting worse than typical even when open. Hard to understand.
You need 2-3 guys on the court that are a threat to dribble drive. We don’t have that, so it is tough to fix.We appear long and lean. YesWhat they -- Law, AJ, Taylor...even Gaines -- are capable of doing in the set offense vis a vis dribble-drive is pretty one-dimensional. They are ok in transition with the ball. But if you're playing NU and you make your shot and get back, you've got a good chance to reduce the offense to a contested three-point shot.
Gaines maybe has shown the most, and he's gotten much better with the ball in his hands. Greer mixes it up, but he is easily defended in the paint. He doesn't dribble out of trouble in the paint....he too often picks up the dribble or makes the very difficult pass.
Greer and Gaines will continue to get better.
I am not sure what the program canopy is, but if your point is we lack confidence as a team, then I would agree.Mostly, I think the overall problem is the psyche of the team under the program canopy.
The fact that we have nobody that can create a shot is more magnified by the core problem under the canopy.
If the psyche and confidence were legitimated then nothing else would matter and we would be dancing. We have the talent but because we dont have the psyche, we cant make shots.

My biggest beef with CCC is I think he yanks the young players at the slightest error and allows the Vets to almost shot themselves into a slump. Still think he is the right guy for the NU job despite what could be a worse record next season. He will get the pieces to fit after the significant Lathon set back.
On the letting upperclassmen play....Benson played under two minutes last night when NU really needed minutes from him....Taylor played less than 18 in a game when NU had no offense.
I think the staff is great playing anyone if they get results. And we're not seeing practice.
You can't just tell a guy to not shoot, so the only way Law doesn't is if you sit him. Then you lose one of your best defenders. Also as one well known poster would say, Benson needs work. So does Nance.Last year and this year he's been way too forgiving of the vets. I get law is trying to play injured, but last night there was no excuse for letting him keep shooting when it obviously wasn't his night. 3 for 17 and a host of turnovers. Yet as you say if for example nance makes a defensive error he's out quickly and may not play the rest of the game. (And I know nance is out with mono now, but before that the above happened multiple times).
I think he deserves another recruiting cycle- ie until this frosh class graduates to see the program status. In some ways the NCAA berth accelerated a lot of expectations maybe unfairly.
