In the stadium and wondering why there aren’t more people here. Are people just fundamentally not attending games anymore?
We've had whole threads in the past listing the multitude of issues that result in less fan interest to attend games. Most of them have little to do with the coach, the won-loss record, or the play of the team. Same issues for many sports across the Country. But for UofL, game attendance is driven to a great extent by tailgating. Mandatory eticketing has severely dampened the desire or ability of people to easily transfer/give away their extra tickets or for those in need to pick them up at the game. So they go unused. It affects UofL football to a greater extent than most based upon our traditions and fan base -- and the mandatory eticketing is the primary problem. jmo (but based on first hand knowledge)
Agreed. The constant game stoppages and reviews are killing the fun.I think the big games are exceeding capacity but the non important games are seeing numbers drop at a bigger clip.
They have to do something with replay. I love going to games but can’t stand sitting around for a call to be made. Tired of it. It takes the energy out of the building. Not to mention games are lasting forever.
The entertainment value is there games have been exciting. Fun games to attend.
The free for all in the Purple Lot has ruined the tailgating/game day experience for a lot of people.
Well you would be in the minority I think. I believe many like the “Free for All” as you refer to it. In my opinion it was way over due. The decline came long before that decision. For those want to meet up there are lots of options.I agree 100% with this. I liked knowing the people that were tailgating around me even if we weren’t there together. I still maintain that A lot should be first-come first serve and that B, C, D should be reserved.
We should have closed in the end when the stadium was built and never added the upper level. Then we would be in good shape.we're getting the same attendance numbers that we've always had 30k-40k, they just unnecessarily builty a bigger place and now it looks empty. the expansion should have never happened. imho, they need to take down the upper sideline section as i do not ever think they'll put 50k in there on any type of consistent basis unless we're a perennial top #5 and i never see that happening in my lifetime.
I think both camps could’ve been accommodated. I don’t think it’s affected attendance this year but it’s made things less enjoyable. There aren’t great options to park next to someone if you cannot arrive at the same time.Well you would be in the minority I think. I believe many like the “Free for All” as you refer to it. Agreed. Stage one of expansion should have been the end zone. That actually looks really good. The upper level could have waited, though, those luxury suites bring in a ton of money. It's not unprecedented to reduce seating capacity. The stadium would look great without it. Got to be able to keep those suites, though. We should have closed in the end when the stadium was built and never added the upper level. Then we would be in good shape.
