An undergraduate major of public administration is a decent program if your desire is to be a civil servant or to go into politics. I wonder how many current AU athletes have signed up for this program? The linked story doesn't really answer that. It only confirmed the AU athletic department wanted to keep it and the decision to terminate the program was reversed once the athletic department chimed in wanting to keep it, and even offered to subsidize the program although the university declined that offer.

Interesting topic for sure.

I heard that 51% of those in this program were athletes, the vast majority of which were football players.

Looks like the good folks in the Auburn athletic department are doing what they can to keep their boys eligible.

Hey, it is a message board and I get that anything is fair game topic wise but are we really going to go here? Are we really going to start with the criticism of everything the other teams do, like we do it all right here but look at those guys over there, they do it wrong, they're dishonest, they're underhanded.....blah, blah. I didn't click the link and to be honest, I'm not concerned about the grades and eligibility of their players. If they're suiting up against us in the Georgia Dome than we've got to compete against them. Worrying and criticizing their eligibility, as if they shouldn't be eligible (as if we have any idea of what should or shouldn't be going on there) just sounds petty and is like the stuff that goes on between Louisville and Kentucky fans. It sounds petty and as if we are already making excuses. Hey, if we played Auburn every year and this was our 30th meeting than maybe all of this silly stuff should come up more but to be honest, I'm not interested in this story at all, I don't care. We play Auburn, they are really good, I'm going, I hope we win that's all I care about. Not this judgmental, righteous junk....."we do things the right way here but those guys are shady, I know somebody who's friends with a formers students, ex-girlfriends mom who said the those guys do such and such".

Yep, it's college sports - it is a business.

Whatever model they are following has been productive.
Whatever model we're following has also been productive.

I agree we shouldn't be pointing fingers @ other programs. All programs operate with winning as being the primary objective. Some student athletes take advantage of their opportunities via the education provided and have a means to excel when their football careers are over. Others don't.

DerVille makes a great point. I wasn't pointing any fingers with my response to the OP's message, but found the linked article interesting to read.

That's fine if you don't care. This report just came out in the Wall Street Journal and I think it is both interesting and troubling. It just happens to be coincidental that Auburn is our opening game. For me, it is concerning anytime an accredited university is allowing an athletic program be the proverbial "tail wagging the dog". You may see that as "righteous and judgmental", I see it as potentially a perversion of the mission of a university, much like the issues at UNC.

A good % of these universities operate with their own best interests in mind, and not the "student athlete" - there is just too much $ involved w/ TV,etc for programs to operate with an honor code in mind.

This is nothing new. It's been going down for decades.

I agree the article was interesting but I would rather focus on the game and not what is going on in their classrooms. This is something Auburn fans need to worry about, I know we have already taken criticism for taking some of the transfers we have taken and we blew it off as sour grapes.
