I've decided its time to get a luxury car after having driven economical cars my whole life. I've been looking online at Audi and Mercedes Benz mostly and was wanting to get opinions on which brand I should go for. I will probably get a used one with low miles, and I only drive an average of maybe 4,000 miles a year.

Personally I'm an Audi man, just like the feel and features better. It just feels more like a drivers car and you feel more connected to the road, but still luxurious if that makes any sense.

.....I drive a 2010 Nissan

I've driven a Audi at a dealership before and liked it at the time. I'm leaning towards a Audi but never driven a Mercedes.....

I currently drive a 2013 Hyundai

If you go the MB route it depends on the model, I don't have any experience with Audi although they've made some better looking cars of late.

Whatever you pick in the MB line be prepared for serious $ on the maintenance side and believe it or not it's mostly suspension related:

All their compact cars and suvs use a conventional suspensions which I think are pretty reliable. All midsize cars and suvs use Airmatic suspensions that can get very pricey and *will* go bad at some point. Ahhhhhh, then the large vehicles with ABC hydraulic suspensions.......not only will they go bad they will make you beg for mecry. One (1) ABC strut will cost upwards of $4k per corner. And that's just the beginning. Cool concept but I've been there and the salty tears of hatred flowed freely.

If you are considering going the SUV route, a good friend of mine just got an Audi Q7 Diesel, and it is a very sweet ride.

Just got rid of a Q7. Great car but if anything starts needing to be replaced, it's very expensive.

Hell, a new battery was over $500.

Not begrudging anyone with the cash, but ... Why spend that much on a car if you (the OP) are not going to drive it much? I get being a collector or getting something extra nice if you drive a lot, but why deal with the extra $$ for the car AND maintenance? I know all Paddockers could afford to pay for both cars straight up, but it seems like there would be so many other things that would/could be more rewarding than a car that you hardly drive. JMO.

However, Audi would be the answer.

Why the hell would you waste that much money for something you're going to drive only 4k miles a year?

I mean, if you're balling, by all means. But unless you're making serious jing.. like $300k+ a year.. I'm not sure buying a $30k+ car to drive it 2 days a week is worth it.

My boss has an A6 and brake job was $3200.
Unless it's an RS6 and has some form of ceramic brakes I would say he's yanking your chain a bit. If he's a cheesedick that's certainly possible, not sure any other reason a boss would divulge that kind of info unless flexing his Paddock Money bones. I would think a regular A6 with all rotors and pads would prolly be half that at most. But I'm not an Audi expert.

I like when the poors post in threads like this. It's like looking at their noses up against the window panting as you eat luxuriously at a fine dining establishment. Their drooling pleases me.

Unless you are so well established that it just doesn't matter (And if you were, you wouldn't be buying an Audi OR a Benz).. buying a mid-level luxury car to drive it 1/3rd of the time ranks as one of the WORST financial decisions that someone could logically make.

And although we've been over this, and I love making fun of the poors, too.. a decision like this will only hurt the power of your money, and for what? A nicer car? Already one of the worst investments around?

Tell me Audi owners, how many times were you at a stoplight in your Audi, and a girl next to you got out of her car to blow you?

If we want to be TRULY logical, invest that $400/monthly car payment for a few years, let it grow. Maybe put it in real estate. After five years, buy a BETTER car outright, use the savings on interest to get a massive dick implant, then drive around town with your donger hanging over the car door for everyone to see..

Buffett would agree, I'm sure of it.

Not stick (although I'm not sure on that)..but any leather, could be made by Giuseppe that morning.. you put your butt cheeks on that for more than a half hour.. you're gonna sweat. And it's gonna stank.

<---- Automotive technician and german car enthusiast here...

From what you've said itt you need to go drive a Lexus, probably a Gs350. It's as luxurious as anything coming out of germany and you get the quality and reliability of Toyota. PM me for specifics, admittedly I work for Lexus so I'm a bit biased but I drive a 20 year old BMW daily that I absolutely love so I can give you a good comparison.

Ya but the Lexus styling is outdated and lame, MB and Audi look a ton better.
