Its interesting. Stats guy Evan Miya makes an effort to rate the players defensively.

Based on watching Edey and TJD back-to-back, this would lead me to question Miya's algorithms if he rates TJD as that poor on defense. I thought TJD was far more effective on defense given his mobility.

It would help if you label the columns. What do these number represent? Are higher numbers better or lower?

(By the way, Cousy award made its last update in early February, and Boo was not listed among the ten. However, that does not necessarily mean that he cannot win the award.)

Miya calculates a Bayesian Performance Rating for defense and offense for every player.

  • DBPR: Defensive Bayesian Performance Rating reflects the defensive value a player brings to his team when he is on the court. This rating incorporates a player's individual efficiency stats and on-court play-by-play impact, and also accounts for the defensive strength of other teammates on the floor with him, along with the offensive strength of the opponent's players on the floor. DBPR is interpreted as the number of defensive points per 100 possessions better than (below) D1 average expected to be allowed by the player's team if the player were on the court with 9 other average players. A higher rating is better.

The 2nd number is just the player's ranking nationally according to his DBPR stat.

If a player goes on the floor wearing a jersey with a number which corresponds to the sum of the opponents’ jersey numbers multiplied by a random coefficient less than 1.392 chosen by a committee of boosters who suffer from shingles and are seated in row 32, that player is deemed either defensive or offensive player of the year if - and only if - he is, in fact, a basketball player and not a mascot or inebriated student.
