Austin Nichols anyone?

I know he may come with some baggage, but Nichols is a big man who was dismissed from the Virginia team after transferring from Memphis. He was one of the most sought after transfers a couple years ago. Is there any possibility that NU might be a landing place for this blemished- yet talented player? Does he have the grades and all of that? He is something like 6'9" and averaged almost 15 points a game for Memphis. We have the room for him from what I understand. Anyone with more intel regarding this?

You must be nuts. He got himself thrown off UVA after 2 games. And was suspended for half of those games. Not what Collins is trying to establish at NU.

I'm inclined to agree with the other posters here. Too much baggage and this program doesn't need any more bad press. Additionally, he's likely to stay in the south since all the schools he looked at during his recruitment were in the south. I see him ending up at Auburn under Bruce Pearl

I bet that Coach is looking at him. We're trying to win and doing whatever it takes up to the limits of the rules. Every team does it. The question of whether or not it's morally right is a different issue. No winner is ever squeaky clean and we have to decide what we want, to win or to lose with dignity like we always have.

The Cubs took a chance on Aroldis Chapman. The Bulls took a chance on Dennis Rodman. Etc. Etc. I am curious as to what Nichols did. Obviously, if it is along the lines of what the Baylor football players did or something completely egregious- then no. But I just want to dance.

The kid got himself kicked off the team after being suspended for the first game. Seems like it must have been pretty egregious.

My previous comment is instructive of what the chatter has been...that + alcohol + possible dealer activity. We're not going to take this kid, and for his sake I don't think another program should either. I'd prefer he gets the help he seemingly needs without the pressures of D1 basketball.

Is there any chatter with what we are going to do with those extra two scholarships? Maybe a graduate transfer or two? I just want hope that we might make the tournament before I am a senior citizen.

We won't know who is available until the season is over. So far there are only 2 transfers in the Verbal Commits site, against >700 kids who ended up transferring last season. Be patient kemo-sabe.
