JCPS created this mess by sticking with bussing for so long. Anyone with enough money moves out to the surrounding counties or sends their children to private schools. What's left is all the children of poor people. Many of them are good people, but of course deadbeats, drug addicts, etc are poor as well so 1% of the students have no parenting and deviant personalities. They are walking powder kegs in the school system.

Before you get too antsy beating them down remember they have probably been beaten and abused in their own home. They are exhibiting learned behavior 99% of the time.

Well:

A. A good beat down to break the cycle

Or

B. Sterilization

There is an epidemic of unparented children in our public schools. They were not taught social skills and are creating havoc at all levels of education. They are having a disastrous effect on the ability of teachers to teach and for other students to learn.

It is not the responsibility of the public school system to offer remedial counseling and therapy to these socially feral children. Their parents should be told that they have to home school them. They won’t, of course, and these children will become criminals and the dregs of society.

Private schools don’t have this problem because they just eject students who have chronically bad behavior. The same option must be made available to public schools.

Children are our future. We must not let those who have not had adequate parenting destroy the opportunity to learn for those who have been taught social skills at home.

Ultimately, we must place the consequences for bad parenting on parents, not on the public school system.

I have an 8 year old son with Autism so this story hits me hard. I hope some revenge happens and those bullies get what they deserve.

It sucks that you have to feel that way. But I will say, stories like this may make it seem like this isn't the case, but IMO students these days (and probably moreso by the time your son is older) really, really care about this stuff. I think your son will be really embraced and protected. Best of luck.

Kids at Iroquois are stuck there. If you are a parent with little means who wants to get their kid out, it’s hard. Means tested school choice vouchers could help parents who feel helpless. This has become a political issue for people who don’t live this reality. It should not be political. While many parents may keep their kids in that mess, the ones who want out should be offered help. Iroquois has been a mess for years. It’s not as if time and JCPS money are making it any safer or better.

Truly awful thing to hear about. I think it's too easy to just blame public schools and then act as if private schools or home schooling is the only way to go because the world is now a "scary place". I'll remind this thread, there are people who post daily here who blast public schools but then will proudly talk of how much they hate gays, or that random people they disagree with are pedos, or wish vile things on people they'll never meet in real life. I've seen adults curse out strangers on social media and then say they hope they get cancer or die a violent death. As I once stated in one of the many school shooting threads we've had, it starts with parents. It's not your community's fault, it's not societies' fault. Is it really surprising some kids act this way when many parents (here and elsewhere online) post vile **** and then stand by their words proudly? It's parenting. Act like you have sense in the real world and the online world, and perhaps your kids will follow your lead.

Appreciate it. Guess the solution is to make public schools (which happen to be secular) the enemy while completely ignoring how grown adults (many of whom are parents) act online and in social situations. Not you specifically but in general, many here who have said absurd and vile **** want to lecture the rest of us about what's wrong with society. Should we also ignore how jackass adults get into fights in public as well? Home schooling or putting the public school system on blast online won't change things. It begins at home. Many adults choose to act like dicks online and in social situations, so I ask again, is it really shocking those actions breed vile behavior in our children? Cute emoji as a response though.

Glad you liked it. I thought a response blaming the collapse of our society, and public schools as a reflection of it, on conservatives as being particularly eye roll worthy. Not to mention ironic. But we won’t open that can of worms.

You can have a discussion without being dramatic. There's no collapse of society happening and you won't find the word "conservative" or any members of this forum mentioned in my previous posts in this thread. I bring up what I see here and occasionally elsewhere. Some posters proudly want their various hatreds known and also happen to enjoy lecturing the rest of us on society. I cannot help if they happen to have otherwise conservative views. If you want all sides equal, I've also said in the past that I've seen liberals post on twitter that Trump should die when he got Covid. Guess what? That's clearly vile as well. I apologize if you felt my sensible post on adults acting like hateful jackasses not being good for our children was some sort of attack on conservatives.

You might be taking this a bit too personal. No one mentioned you or your views on life and you don't need to stick up for anyone here who may share a few of your views either. There are problems in our school systems, of course, but to me, this all goes back to parenting. I'm sorry if you don't like that I enjoy calling out some of the gross stuff I see here often, but that's one of the problems we face. Adults (many being parents) have a side of them that's hateful and trollish and they enjoy the internet knowing their views. So when children act out, I do tend to point to their parents or how we as adults act out as well. Kids learn from us. Shocking, I know.

One has nothing to do with the other. 100% strawman argument. Public schools aren’t the enemy, those who RUN THEM are. They are intentionally sacrificing education and safety to prop up their social agendas. JCPS in particular is an all systems failure, and those in charge are doing absolutely nothing to change that, other than demanding higher taxes to line their pockets.

While I ultimately, agree with you that parents are responsible, I think it’s naive to pretend that significant societal changes over the last few decades have no roll in this. But like I said, can of worms that I won’t get into.

No sore spot hit here. When I start typing out 500 word responses then you might be on to something.

Anyways, dinner reservations so have the last word. Hope you have a nice Christmas.

Agreed 100%. Unfortunately, all I see are more and more education policies that keep lowering the bar and making excuses for this situation rather than proactive steps to fix it.

And it's little wonder that these places that have such students are facing the brunt of teacher shortages. People aren't willing to spend their day frustrated teaching those who don't want to learn.

Sickening. We as peers should be protecting and building up those with special needs, whether it's physical or mental, severe or minimal.

Just don't understand how someone can look at someone autistic and feel the need to bully them. I know this can be in and of itself, a form of discrimination, but I go out of my way to help anyone with special needs. Even just a smile and a wave, just to acknowledge them and do whatever I can to make them feel that we are all the same. This group is truly marginalized and further, those whose career it is to help them, are also underpaid and overworked.
