Of course this won't last, but the big ten has 6 teams in the top 25 (Michigan, MSU, Iowa, OSU, Purdue and Wisconsin) and 3 more that are ranked 26, 27 and 28 (Nebraska, Indiana and Maryland).

So 9 teams in the top 28.

It will be an interesting year ...

I mean I guess 3 of them aren’t technically “ranked”, but pretty weird that the B1G holds 6 consecutive spots from 23 up through 28. Definitely a deep conference this year.

The Big Ten is insane this year and NU will be in the thick of it.

Throw out the standings, any team can win or lose on any night.

NU's senior leadership is a huge asset and NU, because of so many new pieces, has the best opportunity to grow and get better.

Best conference in the country top to bottom and there's not a close second.

Actually, the Big 12 still has the edge over the B1G--mostly because they don't have an Illinois and Rutgers. Current kenpom rankings:

2 Kansas
10 Texas Tech
15 Iowa State
20 Kansas State
27 West Virginia
33 Texas
38 Oklahoma
44 TCU
53 Oklahoma State
65 Baylor

vs.

5 Michigan
9 Michigan State
13 Wisconsin
14 Purdue
22 Nebraska
23 Ohio State
24 Indiana
30 Maryland
37 Penn State
41 Iowa
45 Northwestern
55 Minnesota
97 Illinois
98 Rutgers

Rutgers has actually been playing teams tough. They won't be a pushover either.

I don't disagree. I was simply responding to the "best league top-to-bottom" claim. You'd easily rather play Rutgers or Illinois (B1G) than Oklahoma State or Baylor (Big 12).

Well, it is a little misleading to compare a 14 team league against a 10 team league. FWIW, the 10 B1G team is #41 Iowa, who would lick Baylor. PSU is easily better than OkSU.

A better comparison might be the (15 team) ACC, and the challenge showed the two leagues are about equal. Wake Forest is easily the worst team in either league (i've been to 2 Wake games and they suck).

Yeah, no.

I know it's confusing because the Big 12 has 10 basketball teams and the Big 10 has 14....and Ken Pomeroy can answer all the important questions in our lives...but the Big 10 would trash the Big 12 like a frat house from a state school during spring break in Cancun

The Big 10's tenth best team today, according to Pomeroy, would be his #41 Iowa which be eighth best.

The larger point I was making is that with the exception of Illinois, but bottom of the Big 10 is very good. Rutgers can beat anyone. Ditto Minny. And if we think Illinois is a cakewalk we'll lose.

The Big 10 is crazy good this year and as I posted throughout the summer, not a lot of difference between 3-5 and 6-12. Ok, I made up the number part, but you get the point.
