Good coaching clearly makes a big difference. No doubt about that. And the B1G has some good coaches. But, bottom line, it's the players. Baylor wasn't running anything fancy on offense. A bunch of high pick and roll that Gonzaga guarded like it had never seen it before and a bunch of guys taking their defenders off the dribble. Gonzaga looked like Northwestern when we play more athletic and physical teams.

The question I have is when will the B1G start to recruit better players? I haven't done any research but how many first round NBA picks has the conference produced in the last 20 years? How may top 10 NBA picks? If you go through great players in the NBA from the B1G, it's a pretty short list of players. Michigan and Michigan State have great classes coming in next year. With Duke and North Carolina being down, hopefully the conference can start to attract the best players in the country again.

Not to hijack the topic of recruiting but I thought the exact same thing regarding the difference in athleticism and speed. Obvious exception to Suggs.

But Gonzaga was not the darling of all pundits for no reason. They had a clear advantage with Timme down low, but were completely unable to take advantage of it. Blame the players, but I think Mark Few choked, big time, on prepping for the game. More Northwestern flashes for me.
