My perception was a lot of fans thought this was going to be another feel-good Northwestern game, and were still thinking so after we scored. Spirits were high. Then after the pick 6 doubt and worry already began to set in. The pass Toure missed right before half (I think it should have been caught) seemed to really take the wind out of the fan's sails. It wasn't a happy half time, people were worried, I could tell. After the first 3 and out of the second half the crowd got totally deflated and the stadium was like a tomb. When Purdue went ahead my perception was the feeling was it was all over, Nebraska was going to lose. Unbelievably, a few fans already started to leave them. When Purdue scored again depression set in, the stadium was filled with long faces, and people began to leave in earnest.

My point is our fanbase is so beat down and whipped when things go like they did today and NU gets behind, we just know NU is going to lose so why stick around? At least with Callahan, Pelini and Riley people would hang on thinking NU might possibly pull the game out.

I can see holding onto Frost until after Dec 1 to save five million, but the administration has to think hard about giving him another year to save another chunk of money. That has to be weighed against lost ticket revenue (the sellout streak WILL end), concessions, licensed apparel and so forth.

Maybe Pelini, but the stadium all but emptied out at halftime in 2007 against Oklahoma State. I've blacked out the Riley era.

Does it really save us $5 million to wait until December 1? Or do we need to wait until January 1 to save the $5 million? I think it's the latter. Here is what his contract states:

“University shall pay Coach for the period remaining in the Term, effective as of the date of termination . . . an amount equal computer as follows: (1) Five Million Dollars ($5,000,000) per year or any portion of a year remaining in the Term prior to and through December 31, 2022, and (2) Two Million Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($2,500,000) for any year or portion of a year remaining in the Term after December 31, 2022.”

So it looks like if Frost is fired at any point in 2021, the buyout is $20 million. If he's fired on January 1, 2022, it goes down to $15 million.

I’m always impressed by how many Husker fans stay to the end to watch their team lose another game. The fan support is still there.

and yes, Iowa sucks at football.

Proud of you for going… can’t bring myself to do that anymore… the only two games I’ve been to in the Frost era, we should have won and we lost😢

Thanks for going to the game. I gotta believe administration and Frost can sit down and come to a more than reasonable buy out agreement and not have to honor this contract. The sooner the better IMO!

It would be reasonable for Frost to expect the University to honor their contract. Why do people think other people should sacrifice millions that are contractually owed to them? Would you? That is the strangest line of thinking to me..."Sorry it didn't work out and we need to fire you, would you mind forgoing a few mil for the cause, we're down to our last 2 billion in our endowment fund and really need the help"

Why can't we fire him "with cause" over his NCAA rules infractions which are still in the offing? Not serious enough reasons? He might sue because they are not serious enough? I don't know... the University could make a damn good case that in the era of a deadly pandemic, to go against the league protocols that had been put in place to protect student athletes from Covid is a pretty serious charge on paper. It might just be legal ********, but it would most likely work, and the the two parties would just end up settling out of court for 10 million.

But absent that, if Alberts gives a damn about NU football (and he clearly does) he will not keep Frost around long just to save 5 million. If he has made up his mind that Frost has to go there is no way he plays silly games with it. He will fire him while the ink is still drying on the newsprint after the Iowa loss.

We would look like total effing idiots after we cheered that behavior on. Those are the kind of moves that deter the next coach with options from even answering your phone call. Why oh why are fans now concerned with the money we owe Frost? Does anyone think we're going to see one thin dime, or ticket prices will come down? Or.....anything?

Sure its reasonable to expect it but it's also business to negotiate a quick settlement that both sides can agree on. Didn't Riley take a smaller buyout in a lump sum? Happens all the time when someone under performs.

Yep. We entered a contract. Honor it, move on and stop making things so personal. It didn’t work out. We all wanted it to but frost isn’t hurting

Agreed, Trev can’t wait till January 1st just to save 5Million and when are we going to hear when the NCAA makes a decision on the rules infraction?
I would think the University would have a leg to stand on with his decision to have off campus practices during the leagues protocols laid out..

If the Ohio St games gets ugly I could see Trev making his move a week from today which would give the assistance a bye week before playing Wisconsin and Ioway..

I think you make a strong argument, but other programs have done the same and it worked. But I only raise the issue IF money is going to be a stumbling block to firing him. But I agree with you, as I said at the end... just fire the guy and pay him and move on. We have the money.

Pay the man his money and tell him to hit the road. Next time be more wise about this type of thing.

I've no idea if Riley took less than what was owed but shooting from the hips my immediate thought(s) are...

Riley probably already owned at least one bank from all the money he extorted from programs and teams over the years, versus Frost.

Riley's time walking the earth is 80% over versus Frost, so how much do you really need when you consider point #1?

Riley wasn't staring down the barrel of an inevitable divorce where he would have to sign away half of this remaining contract, or more.

They’ll fire him when they have a plan in place. $5M is a rounding error to the kind boosters we have.

They can give him more than he has coming too, that also happens just to get rid of someone. Not my money so I'd be good with that, I just want him gone as it's obvious this experiment didn't work. I've backed him until recently and I see all the apathy in my circle of friends and family and just know its time for someone new, sadly again.

You just wrote this article to let Jo Jo know that you didn't leave early. So self serving.
Part of it was I felt there was a chance we would score, make the 2-point conversion, get the onside kick and at least tie to go into OT. The other part was it was like watching a train wreck - I couldn't look away.
