in my 50 plus year life I'm sure I've been bitten by ticks many many times , now we have turkey mites , chiggers , seemingly new varieties of ticks . Anyway was DEADLY sick for week starting last holiday weekend . Severe Severe exhaustion, body aches , night sweats , chills, fainted once . ended up in the ER , White blood count was elevated , dehydration . infection . I think I carried a low grade fever with terrible lethargy for 6 days . Was bitten by a common tick 2 days before it started . Still feel about 75 % 8 days after the illness started . So dont take this stuff lightly .

Hope you bounce back quick. That’s serious stuff. I always wear a hat and cover up in the woods anymore. Where were you Dan?

Sounds terrible. Don't remember anything like that while growing up in Kentucky. Take care of yourself.

Probably a new species carried up from South America or San Francystco.

How many days since the bite? Did they test you for a particular parasite (it’s a blood test)? If so, was it an immune test for a DNA test?

I get 2-3 ticks on me weekly. Don’t know what to do except move away from the woods but I can’t imagine living somewhere else.

Keep them foreign ticks outta the commonwealth.

There are new varieties of ticks that have gotten into Kentucky, bringing some new and serious diseases with them. We used to not worry about it much, but now we have to take precautions with so many people performing outdoor work activities. Have had individuals develop allergic reactions to red meat because of tick bites and other diseases. Permethrin has become a common clothing treatment that has proven fairly effective in prevention ... though nothing is completely preventive.

I get it if you're laying in grass or working in weeds, but what always makes me wonder wtf is when you're just like walking through the woods, not stopping, and end up getting a tick. Like... how the ****? They can't jump. They don't fly. You're just walking. Constantly moving. How the **** do they get on you?

After feeling fine yesterday , and fine all day today til 7pm I hit the wall again .. near sudden loss of energy , was pond fishing and really not doing much .. boom ,, energy left , 2 hours later temp of 100.2 , repeated to show 99.9 .. going to bed and hope to avoid the night sweats .

No specific test done for ID of the infection or tick .. I think it would have about 9-11 days since the bite .. it was a common tick with the white spot on its back . Not the tiny red tick ( really a mite ??) It was a rather mundane looking bite , around the waist line and barely into the skin , pulled off easily and in whole . Had an IV bag of Doxy and on day 5 od 100mg Doxy BID .. ( twice a day)

That sucks. Have to be careful since Lyme disease has came in state also.

Been thinking about getting some of these.

I was diagnosed with Lyme disease a couple years ago after several tick bites from turkey hunting. Had some of the same symptoms you are, plus very abnormal joint pain. The antibiotics worked after just a few days.
As I recall Dr said many cases don't have the bullseye.

Ok that’s no good. Weirdly I can probably get you hooked up with a tick test. Stayed tuned, will check in tomorrow.

11 days is early you are likely not expressing antibodies against any of the common tick parasites yet. Immune test might not find it.

I play a lot of golf. I have quit looking for balls anywhere that has weeds and brush. Just not worth the risk really.

ok here is what is measured:

1) Anaplasma
2) 6 species of borrelia
3) 3 species of ehrlichia
4) babesia
5) rickettsia

lyme is caused by one of the borrelia's.

if you are in kentucky, the closest lab that can run this is in Elizabethtown. Let me know how you'd like me to proceed. Unfortunately, i can't run the tests for you (one of the drawbacks of not being trained in the field), but I can likely put you in touch with the right people.

if you don't want to go through the dna measurement route, Immunogen (based in New Jersey) is the market leader for blood antibody testing.

I imagine them just suiciding off an oak tree and getting lucky when they hit a kid.
