Bad News Bears...

Don't intend to be self righteous, but does this really surprise anyone? Over the last couple of years I've felt the Baylor program was a ticking bomb. This may be a nonissue, and I hope so because the Big 12 doesn't need the bad press, but I've never felt Briles was interested in anything much except winning. Maybe I'm wrong.
I have a couple of thoughts about this. One, is that what Baylor did was despicable. And this corruption goes back at least four decades, back to when they had a starting quarterback who tore up his knee, then had a staph infection from the surgery (at Baylor hospital of course), then was cut loose with Baylor waiting until a day before the statute of limitations ran out, to tell the family that they'd decided retroactively not to pay for his six figure doctor bills, since he'd transferred to another school. Baylor as a university has had a bad smell for a very long time.
And the whole Dave Bliss debacle was one of the most remarkable and unsavory things I've ever read on a sports page.
There are other issues, but it would spill over into areas not allowed for discussion here.
But just as a reference, I feel pretty strongly that the lady leading this investigation chose to go after Baylor at least in part for political reasons. I'm fairly certain that lots of athletic departments hide as bad from the public as much as possible about high profile athletes. She was part of the lead into the searching for truth about last year's and former Heisman winner and FSU's similar cover up. But Baylor is such an inviting target, because the journalistic left loves to go after Ken Starr. He ought to run a cleaner ship.
Leave it at that.

Maybe I'm becoming a cynic in my old age, but my gut tells me not much will come of this. Baylor may get a slap on the wrist, and they'll rush to introduce some program, process or function to properly investigate these kinds of issues. Someone may or may not fall on their sword, but unless some blockbuster info comes out, this one will be forgotten in a few weeks.
Maybe not from the NCAA. But mess with the feds over this, and it might be very regrettable.
