Sony has made some cheesy spider-man movies. Not sure that works after the job Marvel has done with the MCU and Spider-Man being a part of it.

Take out the MCU tie-in to Far From Home and your left with a pretty lame plot out of the 1980s-90s

Screw you, Sony.

I think the issue is that Disney got greedy. Sony wanted to re up the same deal they had. Disney wanted more.

My bet is that someone blinks and they figure out a way to make it work.

Spider-Man is one of the best characters in the MCU, and as PDT points out, Sony can’t do a good Spidey movie without the MCU tie in.

I hope you are right.

Spiderman is one of my favorite characters, but Sony was taking him in some pretty terrible directions before he got caught up in the MCU.

Not only that, but Marvel will need Spidey or lest leave the empire to frakkin' Captain Marvel.

While I pretty much agree with all of your post some would argue they actually made the best Spiderman movie ever.

You mean "Far from Home", right? I don't think there is any question that it is the best Spiderman movie ever. But, it is entirely tied in to the MCU. Take away Nick Fury, Maria Hill and Happy Hogan, and you lose a lot of the best parts of that movie. Mysterio, and his team are all ex-Stark employees who have left the company with axes to grind, and that is the primary motivation behind their actions. Spiderman's suit features tons of advanced tech developed and implemented by Stark.

What's left when they sever the relationship with the MCU? You still have his relationships with Aunt May, MJ and Ned. They've set the stage for JJJ propagandizing Spiderman as a villain in the court of public opinion. Of course, there will be a villain for Spiderman to fight. But, is that enough? I guess we will find out unless the two sides can get together.

Into the Spiderverse.

I know it is a completely different thing but for my money it is the best Spiderman movie so I don't think it is fair to Sony has completely bungled Spiderman. All that being said I agree with your overall points. Homecoming is my favorite live Spiderman movie (haven't see Far from Home) so I hope they work this out.

Not only is he back, but he brought his A game.

p.s. This is not the Corral, but we get it.

Recently re-watched all of TNG on Netflix and the Yar stuff was still fresh in my head. Also, she was hot. Also also... Star Trek Nemesis should have been a story about Yar's lovechild overthrowing the Romulan Senate and orchestrating some sort of terrorist attack on Starfleet Academy in San Francisco. Just my take.

I'm starting to wonder if this is all a scripted publicity stunt by Disney and Sony.

I could see that. Disney is a dictatorial overlord at this point, but why strangle the only current character series in the MCU that can take the mantle of the entire series (ala Cap and Ironman)? Could definitely be for attention.

As for Sony not being able to make a good Spider-Man movie... Spidey 2 with Doc Ock was damn near amazing and Alfred Molina was perfect for that role. I get we're all looking back at the overstuffed debacle that was Spidey 3 and the two completely unnecessary, we're-giving-you-more-even-though-you-didn't-ask-for-it Garfield-Mans, but Sony should get credit for how solid 2 was. Just sayin'.

This. Far From Home was really good, not as good as I was hoping for a few reasons, but still best live action Spidey movie. Into The Spiderverse, though, is easily the best Spider-Man movie out there. Really, really great movie.

Agreed. And Captain Marvel, which is to me the biggest stinking pile of shite in the whole MCU.

Just like most sequels and movies, I think they are simply not capable of sustaining the momentum and the “story tellers” themselves get too cute and out think themselves when writing this crap. There are some endearing moments, but politics, forced humor, and over-the-top nonsense and attempts to shove some plot elements into an already tight comic movie sausage ends up being a funky all around monkey.

But, in their defense, I’m sure it’s much harder to hit an “Empire Strikes Back” homerun every time...

Perhaps they should stop making Marvel movies for awhile...

Amen brother.

And I didn't include the Captain Marvel movie simply because I've not seen it yet.

I rewatched End Game on a flight to Israel a month ago. It actually lowered my opinion of the movie, even though I was trying to like it more.

They basically either killed or took a giant dump on almost every character I found compelling. Iron Man is dead. Black Widow is dead. Hawkeye is almost certainly retired. Captain America is a geriatric. Thor was a pathetic basket case. Hulk is a damned scientist.

I’m not the big spidey fan that some of you are. He’s a solid character I guess, but is hardly even a drop in the void left by Iron Man and Captain America.

I’m definitely not enthusiastic about the future of the MCU.
