Ban kickoffs? That means these plays never would’ve happened

A proposal for the NFL is to make kick-offs in a punt format......either with punt formation (and yes you can block it) or in a punt kick-off like after a safety.

I'm worried that they are changing the game too much. I know it's in the interest of safety but what if the change it so much that it no longer is the sport that we love?

I agree, its always been a part of the game, but its also one of the riskiest parts of the game. Lots of opportunities for big hits and injuries. There is a reason teams don't do live kicks and punts in spring games. I believe it was 14 when a player for LaMonroe broke his neck against us on a kick return. It was picture book how to get hurt, everyone was running down, he was running over to block and lowered his head and hit our kicker in the chest with the top of his helmet, went down and never moved. Our kicker weighed about 160, but kid made a mistake, he is recovering some movement in his legs, but it will be a long process to walk again. But football is a sport of big fast guys having violent collisions, injuries are going to happen.

"And Eric LeGrand would not be paralyzed,"

That's true, and others have been maimed catching passes, running the ball and even celebrating touchdowns. No rule changes will make football 100% safe.

Agreed. But it's awful tough. Where's the line? At what point do we say, "hey, football's just a violent game.....we can't change too much...."
