do you guys realize these guys were both top 10-20 high school QB COMING OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL. Is it just a total coincidence that both turn into complete busts? it is the coaches and players you have around them . Towels and Barker were much more highly regarded than Hartline/woodson coming out of high school and they were somewhat productive. If you put towels or barker on a powerhouse team they would be very solid quarterbacks. This is a coaching issue not Qb issue.

Either they were recruiting misses or not developed. Either way it is on the coaches. They are both bad QBs.

Though UK's talent is not good enough to compete in the SEC the problem is not really the talent. The problem is a complete lack of coaching from top to bottom.

We haven't had good QB play since Mike Hartline, the much maligned. I mean Barker was as bad as I have seen a 3rd year QB this past week. His two turnovers were the reason we lost the SO. Miss game. We score on the one and we put them away I believe.
Towles had all the tools but did not win any games for us, I think Towles is better.

The most important position on the team and we have not had a good quality QB in 10 years or good QB play.
These guys have to make a few plays to win some games, I mean one play against Vandy last year, SO. Miss this year.

"star" recruits bust all the time, just watch them play, both lack situational awareness and moxie

it's the coaches too though, it's everything

I think it is the coaches and I think neither make good decisions all the time. To be fair though, they don't even get all the way dropped back until someone is in their face. Bless Boom, he gets yards with this putrid offensive line. Lots of blame to go around. Tom Brady wouldn't look good behind UK's offensive line

Offensive lines matter. You make Brady scramble every play he isn't gonna look good

And a lot of our fan base hated Hartline until half way through his senior year.

Neither QB has a chance with our OL and OL coaching. I've given a few zingers to Barker just because I think so many clueless posters ragged onTowles last year when he lost his confidence due partially to poor line play and certain receivers who quit on him. Bottom line is both guys could be very good SEC QBs with better players around them. Imagine both guys with the kind of time Del Rio enjoyed yesterday...or what most opposing quarterbacks get against our defense.

Barker looked world class the 1st half against USM, he's been running for his life since.
Towles had some good games when he had protection.
Good protection is not something UK QB's have enjoyed for awhile

I think it speaks volumes that Woodson and Hartline Sr years were our best QB play in a long while and both were decent but not highly recruited kids.

Since then we have had 4* Morgan Newton, 4* Ryan Mossokowski, 4* Patrick Towles and 3/4* Drew Barker (with some low rated QBs in Whitlow and Max Smith thrown in as well)...but with high ratings...we've not been able to pull out more production since Brooks/Sanders/Joker were HC/OC and QB coach.

I still argue Stoops biggest problem is player development..and QB has been a glaring example of this problem.

Man I couldn't stand Mike Flatline. Mostly because Woodson was one of my favorites and our most poised I've seen since couch but still, in hindsight mike wasn't that bad at all.

Lmao there where I picked my screen name back in 09. Was pumped about those two and in a drunken stupor floated them together and butchered Ryan's last name ..

I agree....football starts on the LINES...our offensive and defensive lines are embarrassingly weak and ineffective...they do NOTHING correct....now it's on coaching for recruiting and failing to develop such, poor talent

Coaching may or may not be bad. Certainly a large of the two deep don't belong on SEC teams.

Doubt that only a couple of posters know the difference between good and not good coaching and I don't know but a few who seem too.

Guys, In most cases, at this level, the big difference in a good and fair QB is 1.5 seconds. Give a QB only 1.5 to 2 seconds, and he won't be worth a ****. Give him 3.5 to 4 seconds and he will be good to great. At this level, most QB's can throw the ball with accuracy. However, it's tough to throw it when your running for your life. How would you like to be fallen on by 300 pound linemen, or hit by a 240 pound linebacker coming at you full speed from the blind-side? Without a decent line, no QB is going to look good, and UK sure doesn't have a decent OL.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!
