Gonna be a long embarrassing season with a few good performances mixed in.

Don't have the pitching.
Don't have the fielding.
Don't have the hitting.

I'm still gonna pull for them and cheer all I can.

I hope Coach PawPaw has enough left in him to get this turned around.

Another legend that overplayed his hand coming to SC. Or maybe, he played it perfectly like Odom, Holtz & Spurrier did taking the golden parachute into retirement

Throw Dietzel in that bunch too. Most of them proved they could still coach but Maineiri not so much.

It's one thing to have a down year in a sport. It's quite another to be outright non-competitive.

We're not only non-competitive, were doing it in the top 3 men's sports.

I remember all the cool kids saying that NIL would put us on an even playing field.

Why did Dietzel leave LSU for Army?
Not sure (before my time) but I just said to include him in the bunch because he was a guy that won a national title at another school many years earlier before he came here (LSU '50s), didn't win much here ('69 ACC title was an accomplishment) and never coached again after departing. I know some liked him for the fight song and astroturf field.

The lack of situational awareness by a number of the players displays itself far too frequently and is reason for concern.

Mostly talk while at USC. National title at LSU was in 1958. My parents went to NOLA to celebrate their first wedding anniversary and saw LSU beat Clemron 7-0 in the Sugar Bowl.

Yeah, we were losing thru 4 or 5 innings in first game, but pulled it out in the end. Sloppy play. UF on road next weekend to start SEC play.

Take a look at the Gators. They're getting swept by High Point. They look like total trash.

Of course, this means they'll look like the #1 team in the world next weekend.

We'll probably turn their season around. It's how it usually works.

I don't agree with this at all regarding Holtz and Spurrier, our football program was a national joke when Holtz took the job, weathered the storm and brought in some solid players, then turned the program around quickly, then Spurrier came in and gave us without question the best era in USC football history.

To be honest, I don't follow the baseball program closely, I do think it is a shame to see the program struggle after the amazing run with Tanner. After reading so many of the comments from those who do follow the program closely, I ask, is there cause for optimism with this current coach. He was successful at LSU, but has the game passed him by? He sounded like a reasonable hire at the time, my initial thought was he was brought in to help a current staff member improve (Lee) and then he would be the next coach.

Agree with that too....but it was still a golden parachute for all. They all got paid well, they had zero expectations/pressure and a "nothing but up" situation and yes they could all still coach but each one of them came to USC as other bigger things were happening in the respective sports. Odom didn't have the ACC b-ball angle for recruiting that hurt him... along with his age and demeanor (as it relates to who he was recruiting).
Meyer (and others) were working on that mix of old/new school offenses, others around the country had figured out they'd better start understanding the forward pass in college so by 2005....it was way different game than in 1990 (for SOS). Love and appreciate them both, though, without question.

McGuire personally was not in favour of USC leaving the ACC, but felt that we were on strong enough grounds to hold our own while still being in the ACC's back yard. By the mid '70s he knew leaving was an absolute mistake. As late as the Odom era, geography was still our enemy vis a vis recruiting. Now with the coast-to-coast watered-down ACC, it does not matter. Oh well, MBB has other challenges.

Beat The Citadel and take 1 of 3 down there and we’ll likely be a top 25 team next week.

Confidence is a hell of a thing!!

Getting hammered by Citadel already. 3-1 Citadel in bottom I’d 2nd. And looking to get more this frame

Appears we are getting out coached by the citadel at this point. Not to mention they look faster and pretty darn good at smallball.
