Basketball Arena - Purple Preferred expansion?

There was talk a year or two ago about potentially redoing the seating in Welsh Ryan to expand the purple preferred section to both sides or redo seating in parts of the arena. Is there any current discussion of doing something like that, or has that been put on the back burner? Any rumors or insight as to whether that is still under consideration?

Hey, we got new scoreboards and padding on the lower-level bleachers. Let's not get greedy here.

I've heard they're focused on other things (lakefront facility, etc.) and it will be a while before they come back to WRA improvements/new arena. In other words, that padding isn't a band-aid, it is the improvement.

I thought I had heard it was going to be a long time for a new BBall stadium (10 years) and they were making some minor improvements in the mean time to support recruiting and fan enjoyment. There was talk about putting in Purple Preferred seating on both sides, but maybe that has gone by the wayside and they stopped at the scoreboard...Or maybe they do it after they get an NCAA bid, and they can squeeze some change out of people looking to jump into on the bandwagon and have some leverage to attract new season tickets PSL premium seating.

In my day we were going to pursue an annex of navy water rights, for a lakefront all-sports-plex (70s).

Now I see we are back to another 10 year plan 35 years later.

I just can't believe the money isn't there, so I honestly do wonder sometimes if (and don't take this the wrong way), some people dont want us associated with certain athletic success which might detract from our other reputations.

Draw your own conclusions.

They are certainly there to be drawn with the way we do (and don't), do things athletically.

Maybe some day the admins will ask the honest question (that every casual college sports fan asks, why are we the worst power 5 school in the history of sports, across all sports?) then maybe someone will offer up some answers, and we can go from there. Go honestly.

Well, spending $260,000,000 on the Lakefront Facility is a pretty strange way of not being associated with athletic success.......oh yeah, I forgot, part of the justification is that it will be used for Dance Marathon!!! Probably makes it tax deductible.......

There has been a fair amount of talk about how the athletic facility isn't just for the football team but is for all the students. Sometimes I can't decide if that is some kind of athletic guilt or political spin or if in the end we will find that the portion dedicated to football is actually sort of paltry relative to most power 5 schools. Time will tell but meanwhile the spin or $260,000,000 should be a benefit to recruiting and football as a result.

My ticket rep said the purple preferred isn't happening in the foreseeable future. I'm in the corner near the team and we're not getting padding. Too difficult with the curves.

Sometimes I can't decide if that is some kind of athletic guilt or political spin or if in the end we will find that the portion dedicated to football is actually sort of paltry relative to most power 5 schools. Time will tell but meanwhile the spin or $260,000,000 should be a benefit to recruiting and football as a result.

That portion dedicated to football WILL be small compared to other programs. However, I like the idea of the facility being used by the entire campus and not just the football players. The best aspect of the new facility is that it will be ON CAMPUS so players can just walk a block or two do some late night lifting, etc. rather than being a mile away. This takes away a significant flaw to the program in recruiting. Also, the location should impress recruits.

I hope the interior is nice and functional rather than adorned with silly stuff like waterfalls and marble everywhere.
