"An amateur student is one who engages in athletic competition solely for the educational, physical, mental, social, and pleasure benefits derived thereof and does not receive monetary or similar equivalent compensation or remuneration for such participation"...Article II Section 1 2025-2026 PIAA Constitution and bylaws.

"A student LOSES AMATEUR STATUS IN AN INTERSCHOLASTIC SPORT WHENEVER......The student plays on, or enters into a contract to play on, a professional team OR AS AN INDIVIDUAL PROFESSIONAL ATHLETE IN THAT SPORT,or enters into a contract to represent a corporation, organization,or similar entity in competition or by appearing in public on behalf of such entity" Article II Section 3

I don't honestly see how he could wrestle for RAF and not be considered ineligible for the PIAA season? I'm also not a lawyer and not an insider so hopefully others on here where show me where I'm wrong.

The way I understand it is the HS and college athletes that are in RAF are not paid for the competition at all they're paid to promote the events they aren't competing in. Flo does that for the all star classic the athletes are paid for promotion not to wrestle.
Okay that is what I was missing. Thank you! I imagined I was missing something because I assumed his family and RAF's organizers probably figured it out. Still seems....well whatever. It is what it is.

Wow. So simple! If NIL can be justified, probably anything can be justified. Amateurism is a long-dead concept. Nobody really cares anymore.

I didn't know and figured I was missing something. It still seems a bit odd to have him wrestle PIAA after wrestling in a professional capacity whether he's paid for his match or for other matches promotions. Either way, I learned something which is good

Always a work around. The one I'm interested in is when HS kids enroll next August they've to report all HS NIL money to the NIL Go clearinghouse

HS NIL? Could you give a little more information on this, do we expect that Clearinghouse to actually overturn deals?

This. I find it pretty amusing that it is called "Name, Image, Likeness" considering the marketing value of ~95% of those receiving NIL is close to $0. Bassett is a different story as he's legitimately world class and has a large online following, but college athletes are (for the most part) simply professional now. When it comes to athletics and money, there are essentially no rules now; there are less than a handful of states that don't allow NIL for high school athletes now. My stepfather is an assistant coach for one of the top high school football programs in our state, the handful of players on his team that have legitimate D1 futures are already making pretty decent money and it's just pay-for-play so they don't transfer.

I would assume that everybody knows Bassett is getting paid in some context (for RAF and everything else), and that considering the current paradigm, nobody cares.

Now let’s talk about his next opponent: Henschel? Really? I know the social
media numbers are driving it, and if it gets subscribers then I guess I get it. But I preferred it when Henschel was competing against guys at least a level or two from where he was. This one won’t last a minute.

That kind of attitude will not be countenanced here! Arrogant ignorance is to be the default position at all times

OK, now put your new found knowledge to some good use. See if you can figure out a way for Penn State to win the NCAA tournament this year with less than 8 scoring wrestlers.

Combination on 4 national champs and bonus points might do it............Expect a lot of points from at least 4 guys who can tech fall or pin into the semis
