Everytime I see something, this looks better and better. I know it is hard to tell in a trailer and I had my doubts about Ben Affleck being Batman but this trailer does make his ability look promising.

Looks awesome. I've been a fan of the Affleck as Batman choice since day one. I never understood the hate.

He looks just like the comic version of Batman to me. Can't wait. Also excited to hear he's getting a solo film as well.

Just not buying into this movie yet. The whole premise does not make much sense to me, but it's Hollywood so is it supposed to....

Ah. The premise for The Avengers doesn't make much sense but it was fun.

The only Batman movie I have not enjoyed is the Clooney one. Other than that, I'm always entertained by seeing Batman on film.

Loved Affleck's movies the last 5-10 years. But I just cant accept him as Batman. Probably a good choice IF Bale hadnt knocked it out of the park.

Oddly, it puts Affleck into his 2nd superhero role (Daredevil); joining Chris Evans, Ryan Reynolds, Halle Berry and probably others to do the same.

The Batman movie with Devito as Penquin was horrible. I think that was a Michael Keaton batman?

Yeah. It was okay. It wasn't as cartoonish as Val Kilmer's Batman Forever but mindless entertainment. I actually liked Val Kilmer as Batman and think he has always been one of the best actors out there.

Anyways, as for Batman Returns with Devito, at the time I don't remember thinking it sucked. My opinion just declined as I got older and the Nolan movies have made every previous Batman film look like a turd in comparison.

Can someone explain to a non comic book guy why those two are fighting? And then they are on the same team?

No disrespect, I love the Batman and Avengers flicks and will see this one but I really have no clue what the dill is on this one.

They are fighting because superman and Zod destroyed one of Wayne's skyscrapers while fighting and killed all his employees. That's what you see in the trailer is Zod and Superman fighting from Wayne's perspective

Batman and Superman aren't always the best of pals in the comics either. The Dark Knight Returns which is one of the best and most famous Batman stories is a huge influence on this film and it appears the climactic battle will draw from that source quite a bit.

In this film, from what we know is they are trying to do a realistic take on how people would act if someone like Superman showed up. In the trailer you see some worship him as a god while others are terrified of him and what he could do. There's a lot of mistrust after his battle with Zod demolished much of Metropolis (including a Wayne tower). The movie is going to explore the consequences of this kind of battle. Lots of innocent people got hurt.

I think it's a clever take. Will it pay off? We won't know until next year, but I'm optimistic. I also really liked Man of Steel, so I like where they are going.

Holly Hunter looks terribly miscast in the trailer. I hope she doesn't have much screen time.

Thanks for explaining it. I don't read comics so I also didn't know whyTF two good guys would be fighting.

And should it really even be a fight? Batman doesn't even have any super powers.

Kryptonite is a plot device that evens the odds...

In the Dark Knight Returns
Batman wins the fight.

The only graphic novels I've read are Knightfall and The Killing Joke. Is DKR better?

Yeah. It's very 80s because, well, it's from the 80s. The cold war plays a big role. It was pretty groundbreaking at the time. There is an animated version of it that does it pretty good justice. They also announced today that an animated Killing Joke is coming out next year.

My favorite Batman graphic novel is The Long Halloween which Nolan used for a lot of his movies.

The trailer looked good. I wonder what they are doing with Zod's body you see briefly.

I liked Man of Steel. Everyone was so put off that he killed Zod but he really had no choice. Plus if you remember in Superman II he chucks Zod into a pit and then chuckles at Louis after she punches Ursa off a cliff. If you think about it that was way more sadistic.

Best Batman movie to date is the Mask of the Phantasm. TS

Team Dark Knight.

The Long Halloween and it's sequel Dark Victory are both excellent. For those interested in titles that influenced the Nolan trilogy...

Batman: Year One
The Long Halloween
The Dark Knight Returns
Knightfall
No Man's Land
The Killing Joke (not a big influence)

The movie looks really good. As a little kid I was a big Superman fan. Now I hope Batman kicks his ***.

The biggest problem with Superman is he is TOO powerful. It makes any attempt to stop him weak. In the trailer Batman faces off with Supes. If it were real life, freeze blast or lasers from the ole eyes ends fight in a second

If Superman kills Batman, then Batman proves his point and humanity turns on Superman. Superman has to defeat Batman by apprehending him, unmasking him and turning him over to the authorities. Superman will also have to be much more judicious with his abilities after destroying half of Metropolis in Man of Steel due to the public backlash. He can't go full on god mode unless the threat warrants.

Batman on the other hand is out to kill Superman because he perceives him to be a threat to humanity. Batman doesn't give a damn if the world hates him for doing so because from his standpoint it serves the greater good. Batman is willing to sacrifice his life or freedom to accomplish this objective.

Think of it as U.S. forces in a hostile nation. The U.S. military is clearly superior to the enemy. The U.S. military could quite literally turn the entire Middle East into a wasteland killing millions. This would wipe out all enemies, as well as millions of innocents. The U.S. military can't really utilize these tactics though for a litany of practical and humanitarian reasons.

Now think of the ISIS insurgent. This person believes the U.S. military to be a threat to his entire way of life, his culture, his civilization, his life and the lives of those he cares about. This person does not have the power, technology or capabilities of the U.S. military, but he also is not bound by the same humanitarian or practical restrictions. He can achieve what amounts to victories even if he ultimately sacrifices his own life for the greater good.

In the end, it isn't a perfect analogy because Superman can literally be killed by Batman with kryptonite and it is highly unlikely the United States will be destroyed by ISIS, but I think it works to give a practical frame of reference for why this god like creature can't just kill humans without consequences. Even Superman has to have quality of life. He can't be humanity's number one enemy. That would be a miserable existence even for him.

It sounds like they are trying to backtrack from the stupidity of Man of Steel's post-battle nonchalance. I guess now all the destruction from the battle with Zod matters, and has consequences?

The only logical thing I can think of is Batman using something like the "Hulkbuster" armor used by Iron Man in Avengers 2. Kryptonite only makes a guy like me capable of bringing down Supe.
