BB: Best Case Scenario

Given everything we know about the Wildcats so far, what seed do you think a literal best case scenario would be?

I’ll start first:

Four seed would be literal best case scenario.
5-9 is the likely category
Bubble team is less likely but possible
Missing the tournament as a non-bubble team is very unlikely but possible as a worst case scenario

Unless this team starts playing with some level of consistency (the good kind) they are much more likely to miss the tournament than to make it with any seed much less one in the 4-9 range. The hopeful in me keeps me watching for the turn around, the realist recognizes it’s not likely to come.

We are still top 10 seed even today according to Bracket Matrix. We aren’t as “on the bubble” as many have said. I think a lot of stems from the Missouri loss actually being Q2 instead of Q3 like it was originally reported.

I keep hoping that this team will magically get better. But, realistically, Kentucky will hover around .500 in conference and miss the tournament. I have seen nothing that promises this team won’t lose at least 15 games this season.

I just looked at the remaining schedule. Thankfully several SEC teams aren't very good at all. But I still came up with .500 for the rest of the games. Thought I was being generous with a couple wins too.

Best-case scenario for this year is actually not bad at all. Given what we’ve done in patches without Lowe (mostly the Louisville game but there have been other flashes here and there) without even having our own offense or our own defense down.

If you start there and add that we do get our O and D schemes down then 4 or 5 seed is definitely doable. If JQ happens to come back and plugs into those schemes, and does it soon enough, 3 seed is not even out of the question. Everyone sees that as impossible now but the season is always longer than everyone realizes including talking heads, and without exception a big enough batch of top-15 teams always stumbles down the stretch to make room for anyone who is coming on at the right time.

Get in the tourney as a 3 or 4 seed and paths can open up. Often do. Final Four is the only level this team couldn’t get to without a ridiculous amount of luck. If we’re talking best case scenario.

Think of this against MSU - the team really turned on the jets and hustle when JL went out and JQ didn’t even play. Maybe Pope found something with that personnel and rotation?
I'm hopeful, but I also feel like an idiot for thinking we had turned the corner after St. Johns. I even said "we are back!". I'm going to need to see a few good games in a row to believe.

It seems some people are looking at our last game. I’m looking at our body of work. And, that doesn’t look good. An 11 seed would be the best we could hope for.

So you don’t think there is any scenario where we can earn anything better than an 11 seed? We are the top 10 seed today per Lunardi

I’m looking at how we are currently playing. Our record in those 16 games is not good. But, you ask, is there a scenario Where we can earn anything better than an 11 seed? Yes there is a scenario, but no, I don’t think that scenario is happening.
Do you think there is a scenario where Coach Pope becomes the NCAA coach of the year?

No. I don’t think there is a scenario where Pope becomes coach of the year.

Do I think there’s a scenario where can finish with an 8 seed or better? Yes.

I think you’re misunderstanding what a best case scenario is.

Best case scenario IMO would be getting in the 5-9 seed range. Kentucky has a lot of work to do and will have to pull off some major wins throughout SEC play. Right now, they are a bubble team 35th in the Net Rankings. We need more games like the Mississippi State game. No more shitting the bed against teams like Missouri.
No, they don't need more games like the MSST game. That was a Q3 win. They need wins against actual teams and also cheat Q1 wins on the road against garbage teams. LSU will be a start.

I checked NET an hour ago and UK is 1-0 Q2, 1-1 Q3. Mizzou was a Q3 loss.

I actually understand what a scenario is and what a best case scenario is. A best case scenario would be us winning all of our games that remain. But, there is a difference between probability and scenario. So while I think scenarios exist for us to be a three or four seed I think that the probability is exceptionally low.

This is a question I feel better answering after the upcoming Tennesee game. I think we need to win that game.

If we lose to LSU, roll up the sidewalks and turn out the lights, it's over.

Beat LSU and Tennesee, we're cooking with grease at that point, but Pope cant stop there, he's gotta keep this team motivated. Don't go beat Tennesee, then lose another game we should win. That's a common denominator with him.

Losing at UT won’t be the worst thing in the world, but dang, we would have 7 losses already and we still have road games at Florida, Auburn, Arkansas and Vandy, plus a bunch of tough home games.

I hope we turned a corner on Saturday, but I've seen this movie way too many times to dive into that. I know how this movie ends. We're the hot blonde chick walking through the woods at night yelling "HELLO, IS ANYONE THERE" and the dang car won't start that ran just fine 10 minutes ago.

Dang I’ve never thought myself as the “hot blonde chick” lol. Kudos to you for causing my mind to go there, Jeff. Your comment may have caused me gender dysphoria. 😂

Well, we've all seen it though, it's always the hot blonde chick wearing a torn tank top walking through the woods at midnight, yelling. That's us. Yeah, we can make it til morning, but it would be best if we shut the hell up and armed ourselves.

Best case scenario?

Well friends that would be watching UK basketball (presented By Morgan and Morgan and Morgan and Morgan) at KSRbar. Have y'all tired their beer cheese?? It's absolutely amazing!

I personally don't care if we win or not. After the game I'll be reading "Mitch please" by NY times best selling author Matt Jones, (do not google his dad lol

I shouldn’t have to explain what I said, but go ahead and twist my post to fit your narrative while conveniently ignoring that I already said in this thread before you did, they need major SEC wins. I’ll spell it out for you since reading comprehension clearly isn’t your strong suit. Kentucky needs to play a full 40 minutes from here on out, like they did after the comeback against Mississippi State and in the games vs St. John’s and Indiana. And yes, “major wins” means beating Quad 1 teams. This really isn’t complicated.

The way it is right now, every win, and UK is in the NCAAT, every loss and they are out, so…

If UK wins 2 in a row, they would have to lose 2 in a row, to be back on the bubble, and if they lose 2 in a row, then they would have to win 2 to before another loss, to be back on the bubble.

Simply put, UK needs to string together 3-4 wins between losses optimally to be safe.

I never miss a game. I hope you’re right. I want the team to show us something.
Except for that ugly start the last game, the offense tended to be much more spread out. The defense was pretty damn good. With two question marks out of the way (Lowe / Quaintenance), the team is already forming an identity. The key tonight will be to see how with other guys taking the role of Lowe.

The sad part I think about this season is like certain others it would have been interesting to see what this team at full health from the beginning would have become.. And yeah I know with JQ we knew coming in he wouldn't be ready to go at the beginning but I'm just saying.

Because you have to figure they'd be better than they are currently. But better enough to warrant that pre season ranking number? Probably not.

Still would have been nice to have seen.

As it current stands it's hard to say best case here. Sure seeding is dependent on UK but also on all the other teams. Could we rise as high as say a 4 or even a 3 at this point? Possibily. So I'll say that.
