A quick note about this.......its just a minor qibble but.......just because the team page predicts 6-8 since some of those predicted losses are somewhat toss ups it's actually predicting 7-7 and overall 9-9.

In other words while we are only favored in 6 of the games, we are still predicted to win 7.

I just wanted to point that out.

FWIW 9-9 in the SEC IMO gets us def in the tourny. Heck we were only 10-8 last year and got a 3 seed. There was four teams at 8-10 that made it. Heck there was TWO 6-12 teams that also made it lol.

Thanks for the hope, brother. I’m hanging on. Missing the tournament for me is about as sad as it gets basketball wise

Sounds about right ... Team doesn't want it badly enough to do better imo .. Started last two games very poorly likely disrespecting their opponents .. which on the face of it is ridiculous

I'm not too too concerned about it (at least at this point lol). Usually top 30 Kenpom teams definitely make the tournament. Unless we are a 2024 St Johns where they were rated like 21st but lacked resume wins and missed.

I think with being in the SEC, this team will having plenty of opportunities for resuming building wins. I think we'll be ok.

7-7 and we are in. 9-9 in the SEC and 18-13 going in to the SEC tourney should get us a 10 seed. And, if we manage to knock off the 7, probably a date with 2 seed BYU in the second round.

9-9 or 10-8 would be disappointing but taken into consideration the way this season has gone & with no point guard................I'd be impressed. However, this is Kentucky & those SEC records should never happen.

A post wondering if we're going to make the tournament. Is this UK basketball?
I’m not a pessimist usually. This season we are literally on the bubble, which makes this is a fair topic of conversation. I also lean pro-Pope for what it’s worth. We can’t pretend it isn’t a justifiable topic when we are currently projected as the third worst 10 seed.

Seems a little early to me to seem so confident that we're on the bubble. Personally I don't feel that there's much chance of the Cats not making the tournament, but they certainly might prove me wrong.

I think we're pretty much a bubble team the rest of the way, maybe not literally, but symbolically.

January or not, the way the rest of the schedule plays out:
We have to beat ranked teams to make the NCAA.
We have not been able to beat ranked teams this season.

So every game going forward should be treated as a must-win. We desperately need ranked wins, and every L (especially big ones) will be added to the negative part of our resume to keep us out. You gotta look at this from the perspective of a voting member: there are only a finite number of spots in the bracket. That's what it feels like being on the bubble.

Now the upside to that is that every remaining game has some importance and meaning to it.
Definitely won't be boring the rest of the way.
Hold on to your butts!

nah it's just acknowledging the reality of our situation. if we go out there and fire off 3 or 4 more conference wins in a row, all this bubble talk will go away

I'm genuinely curious...Why on earth would anyone be "pro-Pope" at this point? Didn't deserve the job. Basically proving he can't handle it. I get the whole he's a nice guy and he played here, but IDGAF about that stuff in the regards of the UK basketball coach.

I mean I'm pro whoever is coach at the current moment.

Has Pope done anything to warrant any optimisim? No. Definitely not.

But for now he's the guy.

This is very similar to the whole Cal thing. Coach and team are tied together. I never understood not rooting for the coach. Same with Pope.

I just want UK winning as much as possible. As long as Pope is the head coach, I'm going to root that he leads them to success. Until a change is made

There's this thought that goes with this board from time to time...........even about rooting against the team so that the coach is fired. I mean I litterally saw a post on here that was upset we beat LSU because that might give more rope to Pope. I just cannot fathom doing that.

Yeah, I guess we have a misunderstanding of "pro-Pope". I hope he wins every single game he coaches at UK. To me, that's pro-UK basketball. Pro-Pope, to me anyway, means you think he's the guy for the job. I just can't get on board with that.

If I actually explain why, would you try to understand it rather than saying I don’t care about the program like so many others have?

That would give us 15 losses. I can’t see the committee allowing Kentucky in with more than 12-13 losses.

Honestly I watch the second halves of these basketball games and think to myself..........u know..........this team has a chance to actually be very good. Maybe not what we thought coming into the season but you can see it in spurts here what this team can be.

The thing working in UK's favor is the SEC schedule.

There will be ample chances to up the resume.

Some of those games will be at home. Heck we might even be favored in some of those resume games we need to win.

UK is going to grab some of those games to go along with the St Johns win (which they are doing well in the BE) and IU.

I think the resume will be fine.

That's where I'm at. I want him to win every game he coaches at UK because he coaches UK. But I know he is all wrong for UK. I guess that makes me pro Pope?
