It makes sense, as NU is the only B1G school with its own beach.....With the addition of the LA schools the cats should form a women's beach volleyball team to compete in the PAC.
What season do they play NCAA beach volleyball, anyway?NU will have a dramatic home beach advantage for games played in the 40s.
It's a spring sport. At some schools an assistant from the court volleyball team (fall sport) serves as head coach of the beach program. Some players double-duty in both sports, but a surprising (to me) number do not. What season do they play NCAA beach volleyball, anyway?
Over the years rule changes have allowed court players to be more specialized in their skills; e.g., you can hide a weak passer on the court if they are a great hitter. Beach players have to have very good, complete skills. They have to pass, set, hit, and serve well; there is no place to hide in two-person sand ball; you especially have to be a great serve-return passer, and there are not many who can do that and be good hitters as well. It's a spring sport.
