I disagree - it's not an undefeated season until we win the next 9 games after this one.

Too arrogant? Perhaps - but this IS Kentucky

It would be the first time that a power conference program had an undefeated regular season in 39 years.

Joe B. probably understands better than any of us how hard of a feat that is.... so, I'm not so sure that I don't agree with him...certainly respect his opinion...

Love ya Joe, but no. This season will be considered by the masses as a disappointment with anything short of #9.

Not saying that's entirely fair, but when you're clearly the deepest and most talented roster, that's just the reality.

Hang it in Memorial Coliseum maybe, not Rupp.

We go 40-0, I'm in the camp for a special banner to be hung in Rupp that sets it apart from the others.

We haven't hung an undefeated banner before......Craft Center would work though to be seen every day.

Rupp Arena is not a place that is visited every day.

10 more games will determine our fate in the rafters.

^^ Yep….Or maybe in the entrance area where IIRC there are some of the SEC accomplishment accolades……but not in the actual arena.

If I recall the '78 team didn't even cut down the nets until after the NT championship game. They were on a misson.

Our season doesn't end today. If we hVe an undefeated season it will only be considered that if we are 40-0. Not saying if we lose the season is a failure, but rather UK has never celebrated their regular season records and Cal doesn't even care about the SEC season or tournament title labels.

We are college basketball.

I respect his opinion, and another undefeated regular season is a hell of an accomplishment, but only championships and Final Fours need to go up in Rupp.

Would you not have to consider the 53/54 team if you hung one for this year? I am not in favor of doing so unless we get to 40-0

Yep, I go with this exact idea. Hang it in Memorial, if we win today. There are tons of events in Memorial all year long and that banner would get a lot of viewing there. Now, if we were to go 40-0 then I agree with CatPhight, there should be a special banner placed in Rupp along with the Championship banner, that would be very special and would belong in Rupp. Maybe a duplicate (or some other designation) placed in Craft Center/Memorial.

There actually was a banner for the 1954 undefeated team in the Rupp rafters throughout the '80s/early '90s. Mysteriously disappeared sometime in the Pitino era along with NIT championships and end-of-season AP #1 banners.

I've gotta disagree with Joe B as well. I do however agree that we should hang a special 40-0 Championship banner if we end up winning this whole thing unblemished.

Wow this one split's me. I think a lot more of Joe B than some here, but I'm also inclined to say no. I guess I'll just leave it at if the decision is made to do so I can live with it.

I do think they we all need to stop and seriously consider what's about to happen this afternoon. I'm rarely totally confident in any win, I believe strongly in chaos theory, but this one I'm sure of.

I really don't have good perspective for me to really disagree.

I think many on here are wayyyy underestimating the accomplishment.

i agree with you. I think there's easy argument for both side, but it's much closer than what everyone is making it out to be.

Right now is the wrong time to think about it. People tend think it's a choice between one for this or a championship. Certainly don't need to hang a banner today. Let's see how everything ends and figure it out then.

I will say this. Kentucky basketball is more than championships or final fours. And if this could teach fans to not throw away everything but, then that would be a good thing.

There are plenty of ways to recognize the accomplishment without hanging a banner. Put a nice plaque up. Do a mural on the wall. But there is no need to conflate the different ways that a team can be excellent. NCAA tournament success is what the banners are for... With that said, if this team happens to go 40-0, I think you can put some reference to that on their championship banner.

I would say it warrants a banner if you win the SEC tournament regardless if you were upset in the NCAA tournament.

An undefeated regular season is as impressive as anything a team can do. Sure 40-0 is the goal, but that accomplishment comes with a national championship banner with it. With a win today, this is something that hasn't happened for a major conference member in 39 years. UK has never been 31-0 at the end of the regular season. I'm not saying hang it today after the game but win or lose the championship there should be a banner celebrating this teams accomplishment.

I agree with Joe B; Kentucky should do something special to remember this team should it finish undefeated.
No matter what happens next, an undefeated regular season is something else & it hasn't been done by any power-5 conference team in over 40 years.

Was Hall on Adolph Rupp's & Kentucky's first national title team?
If so, that's pretty neat that you fans still have a link to that era.
I remember Joe B coaching the wildcats during the 1980s ('84 Final4) when I was a student at UF and later when when he would broadcast some sec games. Hall is a gentleman.

Most of our fans that visit here will probably never see this again in their lifetime. If they finish today undefeated in regular season play I say hang it.

This is the most rational answer, IMO. We need to stay focused on unfinished business right now. This debate can be held after the NCAA tournament.

I am ok with a banner for undefeated regular season if thats what people around the program want. Fact is that doing this is more rare than winning a championship, and just as difficult if not more. We do have more championships than undefeated seasons after all.

I like that fact that UK doesn't hang banners for everything. We just have different standards of success. This would be a rare and difficult accomplishment and I think it deserves consideration.

Hopefully its a no brainer and we can just hang the combo 40-0/championship banner instead though.

That is true. Lots of people thought that was arrogant as hell. But that team was only going to cut down one set of nets, and did.

I don't even like the Final Four and Runner-Up banners they have in Rupp now, at least they should not be hanging together with the championship banners.

Matt Jones was saying this too the other day, but I'm too superstitious. After the season I would be fine with, but doing so after this game to me subconsciously tells our guys "mission accomplished". And it's not yet. I just see no reason to do this before the NCAA plays out.

Matt Norlander (CBS) wrote a article a couple of days ago which kinda supports Hall's view.

"Would there be a bigger story in the sport in the past decade? You'd be hard-pressed to find it. By comparison, Wichita State's undefeated marathon to the NCAAs last year -- which coincidentally enough ended at the hands of 8th-seeded Kentucky in the Round of 32 -- seems cute in retrospect.
Four games to go, Kentucky. We all should be rooting for you -- until Selection Sunday. Then everything changes for everyone, including the Wildcats.
..........................Hate Kentucky all you want. But root for them to win until the Round of 64 begins. If that happens, just wait and watch how big the biggest tournament this country has will give way to its biggest story in decades."

An undefeated regular season is a great accomplishment, but this is UK we don't hang banners for anything less than final 4 banners.

An undefeated regular season is more rare than anything else we have hanging in the banners right now. I agree nothing should be done until after the season but as soon as this season is over with a championship or not there needs to be a ceremony at Rupp for this team. Hopefully we can hang a National Championship and an undefeated regular season banner up. If not we should still hang up a banner for this extremely rare accomplishment.
