Is there is a book that outlines the varying beers?

For instance, perhaps the book states. This is a saison. This is how it's made. Here is THE BENCHMARK for saisons......and here's how they should taste.....

I've wondered this, b/c someone will hand me something and say, "This is a farmhouse style." I can obviously describe the taste. I can state my opinion on it. But I don't really know what the benchmark is for that beer, so I can't really voice to say that it's good or not for a farmhouse style.

Been drinking Belgian Dubbels or Abbey Style Ales lately. If a porter and spicy (not citrusy) heifeweizen had a baby beer.

One of the best things about all these new craft beers is that there are just more beers out there. They are all also high abv%, which carries a lot of weight with me.
