I never feel sorry for anyone that makes that kind of money. I doubt any of them feel sorry for an average Joe losing his job where he made 30,000 a year and lived paycheck to paycheck.

Bielema was at arkie 5 seasons and made over 20 million during that time and had a losing record. Give me that job any day for 5 yrs then fire me and I will retire and live like a king.

Its kind of Ironic, these Coaches helped create the monster that devours them but they get paid very well for it. Throwing a lot of money at a program is not a guaranteed success, see Boone Pickens and the Aggies.

Aren't we lucky with Coach Riley here at OU.....far removed from the chaos in the 1990's !

No sympathy from me. That being said, CFB generates a ton of money, and a coach's success or failure involves many variables over which he has little control. If I were a coach, I'd secure the same provisions in my contract, given the relative lack of job security.

Bum Phillips once said that there are two kinds of coaches....."them that's fired and them that's going to be fired".
He was talking about NFL coaches, but the same can be said of college coaches as well.

I don't feel sorry for them one bit. I'd volunteer to coach division 1 college football and if the school that hired me didn't like the job I did after one game I'd take the money and run. I could live very happily for the rest of my life on that salary. Throw in the buy outs when they get fired and they really have a ton of money.

13 head coaching vacancies (6 in the SEC) already this year, and the season isn't quite over yet.

Dan Mullen, who was fired by Miss State, was hired by Florida.

Chip Kelly, who has been hired by UCLA (Jim Mora out), has been coaching the USF Bulls, now 11-1 after losing to the UCF Knights. What's interesting about that is the Husker fans have been clamoring to hire the head coach of the Knights, Scott Frost. The Huskers fired Mike Riley recently.

Nebraska's first choice was Kelly, and their second choice was Frost, but is Frost interested in the Huskers? Frost's Knights are one of two unbeaten teams in the FBS, and he's surely a red-hot candidate right now.

Frost played for Nebraska.

P.S. Nebraska officials have said that they will not contact head coach Scott Frost until the 11-0 UCF Knights have finished their season.

Frost declined to be interviewed for the then-vacant UCLA coaching job.

I doubt Mullen was Florida's first choice. I read where they had been in talks with Kelly but they couldn't come to terms. I think quite a few Florida fans are upset with that hire and most wanted Frost or Kelly.
Mullin did a pretty good job at Mittipitti State but that 9 yr record of 69-46 was padded by wins over weak OOC Cupcakes during his tenure there. He was
33-39 in sec games.

Frost seems to be a lock for the Nebraska job if he wants it.

And why in the world would Tenn want Schiano? Protests on Campus caused Tenn to pull out of the deal. Can't say I blame them.

I also think some of these Schools expectations are too high. Some of them have no choice to fire some of these Coaches. When the Stadium is half empty and the team is not winning they are forced to make a change. Everyone wants to win but the reality is that not everyone can and in todays World fans want success and they want it immediately.

There are rumors that Venerables and Norvell have interviewed for the Arkansas job.

I have seen that as well. I would like to see Venables get a HC gig but arkie is a dumpster fire and I don't think he could win there. However he should take it if offered, get paid a ton of money to find out and he can always be a DC again at another school.
I have also heard Lane Kiffin's name and Venables being mentioned for the Miss St job.

Funny how THE mighty SEC has begun to flop. Basically 3 team "powerhouse" that has one of the weakest subdivisions out there. No surprise with all the coaching turnover. This could be the start of the long term crumbling cookie.
