There was a Star Tribune article, right after they fired Pitino about how they don’t have a single non-white head coach. May have impacted their options, especially if Dennis Gates said no.
Really hard to imagine Gophers fans being excited about this. Johnson is from Minneapolis and supposedly knows every AAU & HS coach in MN. So maybe he’ll be a better recruiter than Pitino. Little Pitino was always criticized on the amount of talent he let escape the state.

He will do great! He was a solid SAM linebacker for us till he graduated two years ago,I think.
Good for him, though. Ben was a good dude and a talented ballplayer. Wish he’d played out his career at NU.
Absolutely. He would have been a real good one in Evanston, had he stayed.
I look forward to pulling for Minny when they aren’t playing NU.
Jokes aside, Ben the basketball player was a phenomenal wide receiver at De La Salle (Minneapolis). Tom Lemming had him as a national Top 20 recruit; Street and Smith named him an All-American. FSU, which won the national championship that year, wanted him down in Tallahassee. And yet he picked Kevin O’Neill and the Wildcats.
