Thriving! 😀

She’s serving a lot but nothing is on the plate. Like usual.

“With the evaluation in hand, the board will be considering Bendapudi’s new compensation likely in September. Bendapudi currently has a rolling five-year contract, with another year added each year unless the board acts by June 30. Her base pay has remained at $950,000, but the board in February 2024 awarded her increases in deferred compensation and added an agreement to pay her a $1.5 million lump sum if she stays 10 years through June 30, 2032.”

Once again, at Penn State, you get what you pay for.

Meanwhile, she’s curbing, but not effectively cutting expenses.

PSU will survive 2025 as a bloated enterprise. 2026 and beyond should prove interesting.

I thought the mission was affordable quality education for the children of Pennsylvania
The mission of state universities used to be to serve the people of the state but unfortunately that has changed and now the mission of the university it to serve itself. But in their Orwellian way they all pretend otherwise.

I'll give her credit for freezing tuition thru 26/27. That's a big first step. PSU tuition was and still is way to expensive. Stop building palaces and focus on academics.
Freezing tuition through 26/27 would be enough if it was 2126 / 2127.

PA is a lost cause when it comes to costs for higher education - both public and private, w/ PSU leading the pack w/ bloat and waste. Address that Madam President.

Unfortunately, she is not what she 'thinks' she is. She favors DEI with two select committees, now hides this effort behind new names. Her background in education is not based in budgets - just ask U Louisville. I have argued with the Pres and VPres of the BOT about expenses and her love of 'everyone being included'- their term.
Grandson will be Frosh at U Florida in one month as PSU is too expensive - even if he was granted a partial scholarship. Granddaughter went to UVA and now Grad at NYU because PSU was too expensive.
Something must be changed !

IIRC the issue the DOGE team had with university research was that 40% of grants went to administrative cost and only 60% went to actual research. The proposed "cuts" were that the federal government would only reimburse 15% for administrative costs.

I'm sure that a lot of time is spent applying for and justifying the need for research grants. I'm also sure that these grants are big business for universities.

1/5 of the payroll at PSU - including everything from janitorial to ADMINISTRATIVE to full blown Professor - could be cut tomorrow and no one would notice. PSU is a mammary gland. Like a miniature D.C.

It's not about how many people we can properly educate or assist. It's about how many people we can employ.

That sums up Benapudi and the BoT....DEI. Penn State is so thriving, that's why they're looking to close places.

Of course the Board will support her. Especially after she said, "And we are committed to demonstrating our value to Pennsylvania’s elected leadership and to the public." The Board demonstrates those values by having secret meetings and kicking an alumni elected board member off the board for asking too many embarrassing questions.
The BoT has to report what goes on in their secret meetings and other crap they've been pulling. They lost a suit to Pa Spotlight.

Now what crap will they pull?

Do you think PSU is run by corrupt individuals?

If you answered yes to that, do you still send them your money....for anything?

If you answered yes to that, WTF is wrong with you?

The donations are down and have been since they played Joe for a sucker.

We should be closing campuses. The University has been too slow to react. We've been spending money on branch campuses for too long.

Sorry but that "issue" is just not true (as is the case with most of DOGE). Over the course of my career, I've been at a handful of research-intensive institutions of higher ed and this 40-60 breakdown just isn't true.
