12 points and 14(!) rebounds in 27 minutes. 6-9 FGs

Great game from our backup center, and a good step forward in shutting down some ridiculous discussions we’ve had around here.

Did you WATCH the game? I did, and wouldn't call his performance "Great". Yes, the stat line is impressive. But what does old Fitz say about stats?

This. Watching was far less impressive. Nobody was boxing out or playing strong in the paint. It was a very lackluster performance and effort by all of our bigs.

Probably the most impressive performer of any player last night. And yes, he did look good. Not sure why you feel the need to crap on him so much. The guy pulled down 14 rebounds!

Benson has size but he doesn't use it like DP does. If he put some muscle on that frame and attacked the rim like DP does he would be a prospect.

Seriously? Did you see Vic Law? Best player on the floor.

I'm not trying to crap on him, and should just shut up about his play. Collins says he is a hard worker and a great teammate which is all that matters.

Peace.

Sorry, boys, but I wouldn't take a whole lot away from those stats. Binghamton was a bad team - especially down low.

You realize if Pardon would have played 30 minutes he would gone for a little more than 20 points and 18 rebounds?

Pardon and Benson had their way last night.

Virginia does not care about whether or not we win or if he understands the game at all. He's sole purpose is to come on here and pound his chest and talk about how tough of an Internet guy he is. Why do you expect him to open his eyes and understand some basketball for a change?

In the Rapo thread, all you did was crap on him. Then you immediately downplayed his strong performence in this thread.

You are wrong as can be. You started this thread solely to pick a fight with people with whom you have ideological differences. So juvenile.

To praise a kid that just notched his first career double-double in 27 minutes? Uh huh. *facepalm*

I need to settle down on all the Benson is awesome threads I’m always posting.

Out of complete curiously...what was your handle before you became PukeCat? Just wondering, because you remind me of someone...

Actually I did and his game was pretty decent. I would like him to have a little stronger hands but overall he had a nice game (not great but nice) . Nice to see him get the minutes cause that is the only way for him to improve

Whenever you can put together a complete sentence without typographical or spelling errors, then maybe we can talk on the same level. Until then you're just an insufferable internet bully and you're not fooling anybody. Especially someone as smart as Fitzphile.

You avoided the question, but that’s okay. I’ll ask again when you’re less angsty. You don’t seem in the mood for a productive conversation at the moment.

I’m not the one throwing around insults...lol. I asked you a legit question, but you strangely don’t want to answer it. Very odd.

Why do I have to stoop to your level and dignify anything you say with an answer after you began this inane thread just to pick a fight with some legitimate Wildcat fans? I’m sorry for even bothering to say anything because you will never recognize what the true essence of Northwestern represents. Hint: it does not represent prancing around a website all day trying to show your internet muscles. Join the real world at any moment and it will be the first time.

LOL. Benson had his best game of the season and his game has definitely improved over the past three seasons. Has a soft touch and is a good rebounder. He plays a key role this season and should see some minutes with Pardon on the court at the same time. Nance has his best game on Friday and flashed his great potential. Greer showed more poise as the primary PG and split duties with Turner. Ash’s role diminishes every game and he will be the 11th man when Falzon returns from his ankle injury. We will need his fouls v. Edwards, Dosunmu, Simpson, Cowan, Watson, etc. in 5-8 mpg. Had a lot of zeros on the score sheet v. Binghamton.

Anyone who knows anything about basketball knows the Big 10 is the top conference right now and are not have a Sweet 16 team. I could not refrain from responding that ridiculous post.

I think Benson is serviceable. Seems like CCC is going smaller, GS model. Next year, absent transfers (and we better get some transfers), I think we are looking at:

LG - Greer
W - Turner
W - Kopp
W - Beran
W - Nance

Gaines, Benson, maybe Falzon round out the main rotation. If not Falzon, maybe Young will be serviceable or one of the other two frosh will rise up.

Another question: does Falzon get invited back for year 5? It is a question we see more often in FB. Falzon is in year four. On one hand, we have too many schollies to fill as is. Other hand, if he can’t contribute, maybe we can land another transfer or project?

Benson plays when defensively necessary. Absent transfers, freshmen will have to play. That makes me a bit nervous. We have seen how talented but young frosh are inconsistent at best.

I sure hope not.
Unless the freshman coming in is a top 10 recruit don't expect them to unseat someone who has been in the program as long as benson will be. If this team keeps recruiting quality players, it will be hard to start as a freshman unless you are a game-changing talent. (I could see Nance developing into that but he still has some stuff he needs to iron out and catch up with).

I am also probably higher on benson then most. I think he has the potential to be a solid-very good big ten center. I am just waiting for it to come together. He has shown so many glimpses of it in limited min. I don't think Benson playing only a few min is a knock on him but rather a praise for how good Pardon is. Basketball is confidence game it will be interesting to see what he does when he knows he is the best center on the roster.

Edit to add I don't think Benson is at the point where he needs to be yet, but to anyone with an eye for basketball he has the potential. Now there is a reasonable debate to if he hits it or not. I am not going to have that one. If he does not hit it or a frosh is a game changer he or one of the sophomores next year gets unseated as starter.

I agree about frosh expectations. I said it about Law, Nance, etc. That said, Beran is supposed to be pretty polished - plus I still think Nance starts after Jan 1. You might be right though - too early.

But what about Falzon, does he get invited back for year 5?
