Kid has unlimited range. And the first drawn charge i've seen in a highlight film.

Me like-ee. Especially if he's allowed at NU to double dribble as he appears to at 3:35.

Looks on light side for Big 10, maybe? But that's what strength training is for. Presumably he'll be available to spend the summer on campus?

Range looks great. If we can get him some open looks with Buie penetrating and then kicking out, then hopefully he can knock them down. I'll take another Kopp on the team, we just need that slasher/penetrator to get them those looks. Maybe Young improves in the offseason and he starts commanding help/double teams which would also help collapse the defense.

I have a feeling that incoming 7-1 frosh Nicholson will play meaningful minutes. In a perfect world, we would redshirt him, but don't think we have that luxury. I do expect to see Young keep improving, hopefully develop his 3-point shot as well as add more strength to pound inside.

There may not be enough minutes for every big on the roster even if Beran and Nance play some small forward. Keep in mind that Gaines is coming back too.

I can picture something like Young 20 min, Nicholson 10 min, Jones 10 min. for the bigs. I know Collins played Nance as a big sometimes, but I think Nicholson would get those minutes.

Or do we maybe see Jones playing some at power forward and on the court at the same time as Nicholson or young?

Reminds me a bigger version of Buie--nice handle, feel for the game, shooting stroke, floater in the lane etc... Not elite athletes by big ten standards but know the game. Seems like a perfect fit at combo guard.

yeah. Jones was comfortable shooting mid range. Also, putting the ball on the deck three or four steps from the basket. and then decent around the basket

refinement (turning and shooting over both shoulders) and confidence are what he needs this summer....more the former....but I think he'd be a true 4

I agree. The only issue is that there are not a lot minutes at the 4 right now because of Beran and Nance. Before the last 6 games or so, I would have said just give Jones Nance's minutes, but Nance seemed to improve late-season.

I can see Beran and Nance pretty evenly splitting time and CC going with whomever has the hot hand late in the game, with Jones spelling if someone has foul trouble or if both Nance and Beran are off. I wonder if we would ever see stretches with Beran at the 3 and Kopp slide over to 2? Beran seems like he has more lateral quickness than Nance.

We had a starting lineup with Kopp at the 2 and Beran at the 3 this year for 8 games this year. It wasn't great. It was a better lineup than average offensively and worse than average defensively. The only game where the lineup was great was the opening of the home MD game where we jumped out to a 14-3 lead. The lineup was -27 in the other 7 games.

This is really good stuff. @CappyNU have you been contacted yet by CC to join his staff? I hope the team analyzes the data in similar fashion, you do good work.

Lol, I would hope he has someone on staff looking at this stuff, or I'm sure something fancy like Synergy Sports Technologies has this info readily available that they would have access to. I just do it to pass the time at work to see if there's any insights to glean. I'm fairly certain it is also subject to small sample size given that each lineup has only played at most 25 possessions outside of a small handful of core lineups.

Thanks for bringing all these facts to the discussion, much appreciated.

Ty was credited with 6 charges taken this season (2nd on Sunrise team). He's adept at drawing illegal screen calls and is willing to take charges.

He finished with a 2.5 TO/Assist ratio and finished 2nd in scoring at 11.6ppg (behind top 20 Kendall Brown '21 at 13.3ppg). Ty had 3 assists/game (66 total) and 1.6 steals/game (39 total).

He captained Sunrise to a #3 seed in the 8-team Geico National Tournament. They were slated to play #6 Oak Hill in the first round this week, but Geico is essentially cancelled like everything else ('indefinitely postponed').

SWEET.

Look forward to the competition between him, Buie and Audige for minutes.

I've heard some positive stuff about Audige on the boards here--any of that substantiated by Haywood or others who have seen directly or know players/coaches? Buie and Berry could make a very nice backcourt in the coming years.

The best part about Audige is there is actual film of him playing in college:

Berry is a shooter. And Audige looks like he might be one of our better players this year. Of course, it’s highlight film, but they do look impressive.

Audige doesn't look like he lacks confidence, seems like a cocky (in a good way) player. NU needs that. Him and Gaines will bring the lumber.

Yep I think Audige and Gaines on the floor at the same time would be interesting. No lack of willingness to take it straight to the rack. NU needs to draw more fouls and get to the free throw line.

Anyone watching The Last Dance knows what a difference it made once Jordan and Pippen became the aggressors. It would really help NU not to have to rely on a great 3-point shooting day to get a win.

Yes, yes, yes.

That would go a long way in stopping the scoring drought near the end of games, not to mention improved D (which also played a big role in the collapses).

Boo and Berry should also be able to take it to the basket (altho Boo needs to get more consistent and Berry is just potential at the moment).

Gaines (w/ his size and physicality) should esp, be adept at drawing fouls (kind of like how Hearn was able to do back in the day).
