-never done any of that stuff. I can find great deals on the intrawebs or brick and mortar stores year round. Marketing is a hell of a drug.

In the market for a new TV.. but not those **** brands like Vizio or TLC.

Same here, but I've read to be leery of Black Friday deals on Samsung and LG TVs because they apparently manufacture lesser versions specifically for Black Friday.

So, just closely look at the specs before pulling the trigger on anything. For example, I saw a great deal on a Samsung 70 inch but after digging in I noticed that it only had two HDMI ports.

I may actually wait until Super Bowl time to get my next TV.

Yes, I've heard that some manufacturers do this. I'm probably going with a Sony TV if I can find a good deal.. Possibly the LCD 900 or 950 series.. or the OLED A8G series. Can probably get a good deal on the 2019s as the 2020's will be out in a few months. Was reading that Sony's LCDs actually look better than other companies OLEDs.

LG would be my second choice, and then Samsung. I like Samsung, but they just refuse to get away from throwing their crappy bloatware/UI on everything.

Visio is the best deal going. We have a 70" that we bought 4 years ago. Looks great and it was $999 then. They will all look great in your living room, only suckers overpay for the one that looks best in the store. Spend you $'s on size not the a brand logo.

I'm not picky too much about the brand when the TV is basically being sold at a price that essentially makes the TV disposable. The majority of my TV's come from Black Friday deals. I'm gunning for the 65" Phillips 4K smart TV that Wally World will put on sale Wednesday night for $279. I've had decent luck with every TV I've bought. No, they are theater quality, curved, with built in sound systems that blast for the whole neighborhood to hear, but they are usually clear and decent enough for my taste and use.

I'm waiting until a few days after BF and CM to grab something. RTINGS, which has been my go to site for TVs, has a good rating for the Vizio Quantum P series.. $1,400k for a 65inch. Although, I'm a bit skeptical to spend that much on a Vizio.. but sounds like most people here have a good experience.

I have participated in Black Friday probably 2 or 3 times. Crowds were never horrible. While the stores were often very busy, there was not pushing or shoving or fighting. The stores were always very well organized with their setup. Got a fairly decent deal on a Samsung TV several years back at Walmart. Went in, got a ticket to pick the TV up later, paid for TV, came back at time and they loaded it up. Didn't spend more than 10 minutes in the store.

Still, most the deals are online. Also, be careful on how you read the 'deal.' There are plenty of stores, such as Walmart, that will list a regularly priced item as a black Friday deal, but you can get it at that price at any time. They did this a decade or so ago when fire pits were all the rage. $20 fire pit wasn't marked down at all, but they sold them like hot cakes because people thought it was a deal on Black Friday.

I have come around on this thinking as well. Mostly because technology is moving so quickly when it comes to TV's. I have 2 50" plasma screens that I bought back when plasma was the better way to go. One is a Samsung and the other a LG.....both were nearly $2,000 a piece. We bought a no name 40-something-inch TV for about $300 last yr and the picture is noticeably better than the other 2.

Several sites rate the LGs as the best overall OLEDs. A lot of it depends on the lighting in the room where you watch TV. Both brands have excellent models though.

So then you will get the lesser version that they manufacture specifically for SB Sunday.

I think you can avoid the BF/SB models if you just google the model you you want. I could be wrong, but lets say that LG has model 123XYZ, I don't think they can make a dumbed down version and call it the same thing. I have to imagine that these Thanskgiving crap models must have a different model #/

My nephews friend and his girlfriend had been standing in line for hours to get into a store a few years ago. Just as they managers started to open the doors a car pulls up and a big lady jumps out and rushes toward the door to go in and front of everyone. His girl friend tells her to go to the back of the line and she shoves his girlfriend. He reaches his hand between them to seperate them and the lady bites his hand and will not let go. He is trying to get pull his hand away but she is locked on like a pit bull. He finally starts punching her in the face and she finally let go as she tumbles to the ground.

It turns out that the "lady" was actually a dude dressed as a lady. My nephews friend broke the cross dressers jaw when he punched him in the face so the cross dresser dude tried to sue him. There was a big news report about it and everything. The thing was the whole incident was caught by security cameras and showed he/she was the aggressor so he got nothing but a broken jaw.

They do have different model numbers. Usually the ads will include some model number, so you can tell ahead of time which models are specifically the BF/SB makes and which are more standard. It is my experience that the BF/SB models are only going to be sold at one store, e.g. Walmart, and you won't be able to find that particular model anywhere else.

Yep, at home the only thing you will care about is that you got the biggest one for your budget. Once we went HD the only reason we ever bought a new one was to get a bigger screen.

Also run through a calibration on your TV too. You will be surprised how much better the picture is when it's calibrated for your room vs the factory settings. XBox's have a calibration tool on them and there are a bunch of methods online.

Exactly. Bought the same 70 inch Vizio for $598 during a Sams club member sale. Paying $3k for a tv is for suckers. Vizio is just as good as the more expensive brand. I am very picky with brands on some stuff, TV's are not one of them.

How do you set the calibration for the room ? I went thru all those crazy settings, but was afraid I would jack something up. I usually go vivid with cool picture. Now, I do not know WTF I am doing , but it looks better on those settings. Give more Hi Tech info to make it better.

Not just the size but quality of picture. Because I watch a lot of sports, it really, really, really bugs me when the motion is choppy.....or the picture isn’t clear/sharp.
