its been 11 years since we've had a puppy to potty/crate/obedience train. Leaning towards a vizsla, if that matters with your recommendation, as it relates to field training for bird hunting. I've got a couple books, but just want to see what else is out there.

With our last two dogs, we used clicker training.

I'd keep using the clicker. I'm a big proponent of it. How did you train yourself with clicker training with the other dogs? Whole lot of resources out there from YouTube videos and regular books.

I read Karen Pryor's books to have a good foundation. My dog took to it super fast. Used it for everything but walking on a leash (one pop collar session worked for loose leash walking). Used the clicker to reinforce behaviors and teach new actions.

Clicker came immediately after obeyed command (with a treat) until they would do it with just a spoken word. Then again a click to teach them to do it with just a hand gesture.

I used the clicker to reinforce any behavior that I wanted to ingrain in the dog. Used it for not bothering us while we eat, settling down, etc. Used it for crate training too.
