I know this topic has been posted ad nauseum and it's kind of a running joke. With that said, where can one find the absolute best steak in the city?

I'll say this... a 10 oz prime ribeye from Fresh Market cooked via the reverse sear (i.e., oven then finished off on iron skillet) is as good as any steakhouse I've been to, unless you are including things like Kobe beef.

My palette is ****, and I have trouble telling really good from great. So this is generally true for me too, but unless you have a butcher really hooking you up, you can't get the same "prime" beef that steakhouses get.

Sort of... you're typically not going to be able to get dry-aged prime steak unless you are able to go to a very upscale butcher shop in a big city. That said, a prime ribeye or strip from Fresh Market is the same as a prime ribeye or strip served at Capital Grill. I took a class at UK that explained all this stuff. Seriously. One of the few interesting classes there. Ha.

I tried to dry age some beef once but was unsuccessful.

I've eaten at a ton of steakhouses nationwide and Texas Roadhouse is still the most flavorful steak I've ever had.

IMHO...If Jeff Ruby’s is open (I haven’t been to the one in Lexington) and it’s as good as the JR’s in Cincy & Metro (no reason to believe otherwise) then its at the top at #1. Next would be the ones I have been to in Lextown...2) Tony’s; 3) Malone’s.

I like Capital Grille, but they do not serve PRIME beef. It is CHOICE.

I was about to write that you’re a moron, but I looked it up and you are absolutely correct. That’s surprising because price and ambiance wise it’s about the same as the other high end streak houses that serve prime beef.

...and if I made a mistake...why would you call me "a moron" ?

Why are people so combative?

I like the barrel cut filet at Tony’s.

Went with my pops to Ruby’s for the Florida game, definitely a fun atmosphere. But being from chicago I guess I just like my steakhouses dark.

edit to add I haven’t had the nighthawk special in forever. Might need to give that another go when I’m in town.

Capital Grille might offer Choice but most of what they have on their menu is Prime.

The biggest difference from buying and cooking your own steak and eating at a Jeff Ruby’s are the oven/grille they use is simply better than what you have at your house. Not all oven/grille cook equally.
