Best gift: Billfold

Worst gift: 40-0 t-shirt

Blessings: Got to see a lot of grown men cry on the 23rd after handing out the first big operational bonuses my company has ever given. Grilled out baby back ribs for my wife's family Christmas Day. Had our offer on a house accepted very late Christmas Day. It was hands down the best Christmas season I have ever had.

Worst - I didn't really get anything I didn't like other than the one thing my brother got for free. Can't even remember what it is now, some piece of junk. It was free so I didn't really care that it sucked. As far as real gifts, if I really had to pick one, probably the Lowe's $25 gift card the departmental boss got me. I very rarely ever go there and I sure as hell don't give off the vibe of one that would frequent Lowe's, so I just went and bought some rechargeable batteries.

Best - this is tough. I don't have any one gift that really stood out above the rest, at least for me.
  • The Apple TV is legit, but not all that much better then the Roku I had as far as functionality. A lot more potential with a much more pleasant UI though. If I didn't have a Smart TV box this would in all likelihood take the prize. It refusing to connect to my bluetooth keyboard really pisses me off because it's a pain in the *** to type anything.
  • The tablet case I got is super. Similar to an Otter Box with a built-in screen protector, and it didn't require the gifter to pay the Otter Box tax.
  • The 2TB external HD and winter jacket were both very much needed
  • Breaking Bad complete series on DVD, best show ever
  • Got a 1.5 inch memory foam mattress topper. Haven't gotten back home to try it out yet but I hear those things are magical (I don't want to take it out of the box yet for fear of not being able to get it back in)

That sucks about the gravity pen. I got one at Dollar Tree that works pretty well. Should fire that employee if you have the power, couldn't even get you a Dollar Tree quality pen lol.

Best was the new boots I picked myself out and my wife gave me.
I didn't have a worst.

This Christmas was awesome as my wife and I have finally gotten to the point where finances aren't stressful anymore and we were able to give everyone something nice and also help out some less fortunate folks. This was definitely the best Christmas I have ever had.

Best was the private charter snorkel excursion to Virgin Gorda BVI, Cooper Island and The Indians. This was a gift that the girlfriend and I agreed to give to each other last week during our vacation on St Thomas USVI. It was awesome!

Got at least one gift I'll never use, but I wont call it a bad gift. It was very thoughtful and given with love from my daughters, so I appreciate it.

I had mentioned that I wanted a good, cast iron frying pan a few months ago. I was thinking of one like my grandmother had. My wife remembered that and bought me a french made thing I can't pronounce that has more coatings than the space shuttle and cost 4 times more than I expected. It's a frying pan and I feel like it's over my head.:flushed:

My worst was two fold: Daughter came home from grandparents with a bad cold. Then to top it off, discovered she also apparently picked up lice from the outbreak in her school. FML...

Spent Christmas Eve basically setting my house on fire to eradicate them.

Couple of things come to mind; went to my ex-sister-law's house for Christmas dinner. Must've been about 25 people there and when the last gift was handed out she looked at me in front of everyone and said, "I didn't know what to get you so I didn't get you anything". Room got really quiet and at first I thought it was a joke but it was legit. I honestly didn't know what to say. What really sucked was that my ex-wife went to a lot of trouble to buy the nice gifts. Secondly, one of my best friends got a bottle of Comet cleaner and Joy liquid detergent from his in-laws. Their rationale was that he always kept the house clean so they thought it would make a good gift. Go figure.

My wife's family draws names and for three years straight her cousin has got my name. His gifts seem like he puts about 10 seconds of thought into them, just walking into JC Penney or TJ Maxx and grabbing the first "guy gift" he comes across. We also set a $30 limit and he might spend half of that.

Anyway, this year he got me a hamburger presser! My burger game is going to the next level this summer with some perfectly formed patties!

I got random stuff this year. Pretty boring overall but I feel like I crushed the giving aspect this year. Got my boys amazon fires and they went [banana]. Posting from one of them now, so that's probably my favorite.

Worst was probably some fine China. I mean come on

I can relate, my dad and his 3rd wife were the worst at this..

Over the years I received....

A Glass Handled Magnifying Glass
A pair of rusty "Antique" Scissors
A Desktop Dart Board
A case of AFLAC logo t shirts

(there are more but have blotted most of them out of my memory)

But yet they would email everyone their Christmas list....all custom or high end items at least 500.00 retail each and would raise holy hell if they didn't get everything on the list.

Ahhh, the holidays.

What was your reaction? That's the strangest gift I've ever heard of.

Well....it honestly didn't surprise me. He worked from time to time in the insurance business and Im sure these were leftover giveaways at some function he was working at or attending. And by that point, I had received so many strange "gifts" from them by this time that I just shrugged and took them to the goodwill the next day.

I got a BGE from the wifey this year and it was probably the biggest and best surprise gift I can ever remember getting. I have wanted one for a long time but wasn't going to drop the coin for it on myself.

That would have been an improvement over my grandma on my dad's side when I was a kid. Every year she would ask for our wish list, which had numerous cheap things on there like action figures, music, etc. What would my brother and I get? Broken toys she got at yard sales and flea markets. So broken to the point if you ever attempted to play with them they would just fall apart and be nothing but choking hazards. I would have gladly taken some AFLAC logo t-shirts instead. She probably would have just given me used ones that had holes all over them though...

What's a BGE? My consultation of the google machine isn't giving definitive results

I would either tell them to KMA or ask for $1000 items and raise holy hell when i didn't get them.

People rent computers? What a scam. That 13" Pro (current model) one on there for $59 a week would amount to $3068 for just one year, then you own the thing. Assuming it uses the base model without any further customizations, that same MacBook Pro only costs $1,299 on Apple's website. People are literally paying more than double the cost just to not legally own the thing for the first year of use.

Hate all of you.

Every year I get pressured to make a list and come up with ideas. I cave in, and start thinking of things and get all amped up. And every year? Let down. Socks, Flannel pants, bar soap, and a whoopee cushion this year... I wish I was kidding, that is 100% true. I get gifts like I'm a 1920's poor kid in a family of 12.

I do also get books and a few gift cards, which I like and appreciate.. but It's hysterical some of the gifts I get every year..

"You know that computer part you wanted? Well, I think you'll like this.. boxer briefs and canned vegetables!"

I'll take your socks if you don't want them. I love socks. My feet get cold pretty easily. Only time I will not wear socks is when I am showering.
