A little surprised it's a front court player to potentially go first.. but at the same time, i guess not really. We grabbed a more talented big today. And we might still get another.

I think if BG was a little more polished, the staff might not be going after two 6'9 guys. I think them going after JQ and AF sort of says they aren't ready to just give BG the keys to the PF spot.

Actually with JQ at the 4 now (and possibly Alvaro also a PF).. do we use Garrions departure to go get a true center of some sort?

I would have liked to have seen if he could actually mature some. But if he leaves they have to go get another big. JQ is a mystery
It’s not over obviously. He still could remain. I still love the kid’s upside. It’s just hard to put him in a position in the offense that really fits his talent. He could be amazing this year —- he is very talented. Just so raw

Definitely. We absolutely need someone 6’11 or 7’. Can’t go into the year with your biggest guy being a freshman listed at 7’ although a lot of people say he’s really 6’10. Your next tallest at 6’9 guys. A true big man would eat them up.

I’d give anything to have Amari another year.

Well, this is why I think a few of us are "cautious" about JQ. Because it puts everything in flux as JQ does have some mystery about his availability to start the year.. but BG probably doesn't feel like sticking around to find out.

Youd love to have this work perfectly where Jayden is ready day 1 and this works out fine. But there is a possibility that we lose out on another PF because of JQ coming in, but then JQ hits a setback, or is slow to come back, etc etc. And now we're down two PFs.

Not saying you don't take JQ or anything. Just that it makes things a little more tricky.

In a perfect world , if you got BG to stay you’d hope he improved his shooting enough to take the Andrew Carr type PF role as a starter. He can guard the perimeter well enough and then you get him away from guarding the post a little more, which is where he struggles. Garrison also would have to be more disciplined versus pumpfakes.

I for one would love him to stay, roster continuity is very important and he showed flashes of what he could be.

I would too but I never wanted him to be the point center. I didn’t think it was right for him. I still hope he stays and will be willing to adapt his role as needed but I’m also understanding that he waited his turn and might feel some type of way about JQ.

If he goes, he goes. The portal is open another two weeks and guys will be pulling out of the draft for the next 2 months.

Pope's not going to roll into next season with Dioubate, Moreno and an injured JQ as the only bigs. If Garrison is transferring it's not going to catch him by surprise.

Not even sure this means we’d add another big.

Oweh-3
Kam Williams 3/4tweener
Dioubate-4
JQ-5
MM-5

You basically have two 4s and two 5s now if BG leaves and it makes sense bc I think Dioubate came here expecting to log more minutes than he did last season and same for Kam Williams. Last season we had Amari/BG/Carr/Almonor

The above scenario opens up the backcourt for that additional scorer at the 2G (Pierre/Wilkerson/Yates) without burying one of Johnson/Lewis/Chandler/Williams making them odd man out.

JQs injury timeline is the only real reason tk add another 4/5

I do think BG could have made a big jump this season and played the 4 had he worked really hard in developing his ball handling and 1v1 face up game….

I kind of hate to see him go because continuity is almost always a good thing and he has a lot of potential. I’m not completely surprised though. With Quaintance and Dioubate transferring in and Moreno coming in as a pretty highlight touted freshman, the competition for frontcourt minutes was getting pretty intense, and a soon to be junior with his prospect pedigree may want a more guaranteed role. Just something we have to deal with in the portal era.

The silver lining is that I do think that if we now manage to sign Alvaro or another true stretch big, it could make us a little more balanced as a team.

When Pope said that he wanted to see Garrison shoot 6 3's a game, I KNEW he was pumping him up to stay and play the 4. IMHO, he would be CRAZY to leave UK right now. Coach Pope can help him improve his game these next 2 seasons and he could be a big part of a rejuvenated UK!!

But, if he can't see that because of the immaturity, then he can no doubt find a program that will pay him to transfer. Which brings me to the next reason he could be leaving and that is not getting paid AS MUCH AS some other kids being brought in.

Who knows.

I think he’s a better fit at the 4 than the 5 and nobody will believe in him the way I can tell Pope does. I hope Garrison stays.

I was always on the BG transfer train. Then the C transfer market was trash and I didn’t know what to think.

And then the Quaintance signing was another wrinkle. We recruited over BG but ironically there’s no real guarantee on when JQ would play so having BG around would still work.

In my dream world you swap BG for a Folgueiras type PF. Folgueiras type stretch big and Moreno should be more than fine to fill a “C” role in the non conference with that stretch big moving to the 4 spot more when JQ gets back.
