I don't think it matters when the season begins but Jan 1 (or after Christmas break) would be fine, however, the tournament should be moved to Apr 20th; 13th at the latest. Wrestling will never compete with basketball so move it and maybe we'll get a little more coverage.

but since ESPN does not have rights to NCAA basketball, do we lose the promotion they give to try to compete if we move the season back?

Although in general i like the concept, there might be a few other things to think about. what other committments does ESPN have for that time frame? Although NCAA basketball is over, NBA playoffs have (or are getting ready to) start, baseball has kicked off, etc. There is always competition.

If ESPN doesn't pick up the rights to wrestling, someone else will. IT will mess with the freestyle tournaments and qualifiers etc, but so be it. I think it is good to have a one semester sport. Now we don't have to split our time as fans between high school matches and college matches.

This is years past due.
1.Wrestling would be given greater consideration in mid April as not to compete with the Basketball tournament. Tournament would compete with spring sports
2.It would be a one semester sport and the wrestlers could focus more on academics. No pulling water weight during 1st semester finals.
3. Completion could begin around December 20th after most schools finish exams for first semester.
