University of Illinois.....Evanston's Big 10 Team.......
Illinois hasn’t won in Evanston since Feb 2017, Brad Underwood is 0-2 in Evanston. I believe he lost once in a game in OT in which neither team scored for the final 3:00 of regulation. He lost the other game on a long offensive rebound-turned into a last second walk-off three.

Naturally, NW will win this matchup by ten points, behind a Pat Spencer triple double.

Underwood is 0-1 in Evanston. I appreciate your attempt at a reverse jinx, but I don't think Illinois is going to need it. Our effort against MN yesterday suggests we've checked out for the season. And still I'll be there instead of selling my ticket because I'm an idiot.

I’ve been to a game there once but didn’t have much time before ... it was that depressing loss last year on a freezing Sunday, followed by getting back to Chicago to witness the Bears lose in the ... yeah, we all remember.

Anyway, any good recommendations for food/drinks before or after the game??

There is a great bar by Midway Airport that has free food and drinks for Illini fans during NU games

Scroll down on your first link and you’ll see the game was at Allstate. I remember it well because we all felt NU desperately needed a win against what was supposed to be a bad state school team if we were going to get back to the NCAA. Good times.
Ah! Forgot about the All State season. Well you did in fact get the win over a bad team. Oof, that was an ugly season all around for college basketball in the state of Illinois (until a fluke run to the final four for Loyola).

You deserve a badge of courage. Watching NU lose while sitting next to a bunch of puffy chested Undie fans is not my idea of a good time.

It’s going to be 85% Illini fans unfortunately.
Don't think there was ever 85% of visiting fans at W-R. Maybe 50% but that's even a stretch. Thinking that NU has around 3 or 4 thousand ST holders, 500 -1,000 students with the band and maybe 1,000 more one gamer, local fans. That only leaves about 3,000 available seats for visitors, unless NU's well healed ST holders sell their tickets. No, they wouldn't do that, would they?

It'll probably be around 60-40 though it won't sound that way. I'd assume they'll make it an Orange Krush trip and their students will hold many spelling competitions during the game. Watching last year's highlights at W-R, I noticed Underwood wore an orange coat, which I thought coaches only do at home. Maybe he was cottoning onto the "real Chicago's Big Ten Team" thing and will do that again.

I'd go just out of pure spite, but it's hard to blame anyone who would rather take the money and save it to see the women in the NCAA.

OK, 60% Purple. Visiting fans everywhere always try to be the loudest.

I've noticed people tend to overestimate the visiting fan presence in any situation, as anything over 10-15% looks fairly jarring in another team's gym. I felt there were a ton of Illini fans in Welsh-Ryan last year when I was there, but the actual percentage was likely 30-35%. I'd imagine this year has the very unique situation of Illini fans in Chicago having something to be excited about for the first time in years and NU fans being uniquely apathetic. Given the high StubHub prices, I do think a lot of tickets previously purchased by NU fans are being sold to Illini fans, so I think this will have a higher visitor fan presence than usual NU home games. I'd guess a minimum of 40-45% Illini fans and a ceiling up to 60%.

This game worries me, though. NU's players might respond with a chip on their shoulder, and we have rarely been able to blow anyone out this year. I expect a close game in a loud gym, and you never know what can happen there.

Yes, ole Red *** will surely make a point of the pro Illini crowd. It is Mardi Gras for Illinois fans. They actually have a good team and NU is awful. Not expecting much tonight, but next year I think we will split the series.

I was actually feeling sorry for Illinois fans as they have arguably had the worst Revenue sports in the P5 the last two decades. Lovie seems like a decent man, couldn’t build the animosity like I had for that clown Beckman.

However, this season of putrid NU revenue sports and the uptick in the Illini has reminded me why I dislike that school so much. The arrogance has returned and water cooler chatter about their superiority in sports has returned. We have to get better in B Ball to stifle the puffy chested orange men. Football, we passed them a long time ago. BBall let’s get better and quiet them down!

In the past decade, sure, they've been horrific. Extend it back two decades and you run into multiple Big Ten titles across the revenue sports, two BCS bowl games, multiple NCAA tournament appearances including a Final Four run, etc. That's a hell of a lot better than, say, Vanderbilt.

It probably won't be much fun, but it's nice to get out of the house during this dreary time of year. I've been attending NU games for nearly 30 years so I have plenty of experience with games like this.

But it doesn't get easier. You gotta have a cast iron stomach to survive any season of NU ball.

Gonna be rough tonight. I've seen a lot more posts on Reddit looking for tickets for Illinois fans. One guy even outlined how to bribe students to use their WildCard to get in.

I actually think ole’ Kitty Cat Chris gets a win tonight. Illinois has played down to their competition all season, and I think they’re especially prone tonight looking ahead to IU this weekend. And NW played Illinois really tough down in Champaign, plus they’re due for a W.

Wow, can’t say I see that. Fighting Undies are actually good this year instead of a creation of their fandom.

Fair enough for basketball. The first decade of this century they did have some fine BBall teams. The Self era was the glory years. Even Weber did pretty good. Undie has turned it around and as I have said many times I like this years Illini team.

Football not buying it at all. Zook had one good year, Turner had one good year. Both seasons ended in a bowl loss. They stunk the rest of the time with the exception of one Turner year in the 1990’s. I am counting 2 seasons this century with an over 500 record in the B1G. 9 seasons with 0 or 1 B1G win. 2 bowl wins in 2 decades. The Fight Hunger Bowl and Texas Bowl to boost them to 7-6 records that represent half of their winning seasons this century. Just plain awful. Now they will win 8-9 on the gridiron this upcoming season if you believe the fandom so maybe it turns around.

A very friendly schedule (especially in September)probably gives them a chance, especially with an experienced quarterback. If they don't, I think it might be time to launch Lovie
That time was two years ago. They will win six games this year, and Josh Whitman will call it another magical season.

I’m certainly not saying their football team has been good overall - it’s been awful - but it’s not the worst in P5 over that time. But that B1G title was nearly 20 years ago, and the post-Zook era has been an embarrassment. And as awful as this past year was in Evanston, stomping them to end the season was fantastic.
