In St.Charles, Mo, in a four team event, the Sooner women got their highest point total of the season and more importantly, beat the second place team in the meet, LSU by almost two thirds of a point. Beating LSU on a neutral site 198.350 to 197.700 is a sizeable win, and on a platform, which is bouncier and means different landings, is good preparation for the NCAA tournament, which is also on a platform.
More importantly, LSU has had a banner season and has been considered the team with the best chance in nationals of overcoming Oklahoma,, the number one team in the country. LSU is also the only team to beat OU in a dual last season, in the season opener at Baton Rouge.
Maggie Nichols had the best all around score of any college women's gymnast in a while, score on 10 on beam, and 9.975 in the other three events. It was Nichols' fourth 10 score on the season, her second on beam. Chase Capps was second in the all around of nine gymnasts competing in all four events. She scored 9.95, 9.925, 9.90 and 9.80 in floor, beam, bars and vault, respectively.
Georgia was third in the meet at 196.975 and they visit Norman next week for a dual.
Beating LSU was a big deal, especially on a neutral site. This solidified OU's standing as the nation's top team.
