I wonder when the Saints are going to start playing where the Fairgrounds used to be in New Orleans? There is no denying that it is heading that way. The Rams and Chargers now play where Hollywood Park used to be. The Bears will be playing where Arlington Park used to be. It's funny how the company that owns the track at the biggest horse race of the year seems to care so little about the sport of horse racing. Hint, they don't care at all.

You may have never heard of the Arlington Million but it is the first race ever worth $1,000,000.

As for something that they got correct in racing. I noticed last weekend that Ellis Park is the first American track to pay out as they should. I'm pretty sure Churchill will tomorrow too (I'm sure very, very, very much against their will). If you don't kno
w how pari-mutual betting works, the track takes a percentage of all bets in a pool. Usually around 20% or so depending on the bet. The rest goes back to the winners. Believe it or not, those exact numbers don't come out to .00, .20, .40, .60 or .80 and they never rounded up, only down. That "breakage" was split between the track and the horseman. They will now pay exactly what they should have been paying to the exact penny. It's not a huge deal to me because I mostly play the exotics so the most it can cost me on a winning bet is 19 cents but it is one of those things that is a matter of principal.

BTW, if they had done something better with the breakage it wouldn't bother me. Like use it to pay for jockey's health insurance and thoroughbred aftercare.

World's changed, Glenn. Pre-WW2, the US's 3 biggest sports were baseball, racing, & boxing.

On a plus note, Turfway's new grandstand opens in September. Churchill owns the place now. Not that I go much, but I have two tracks within 20 minutes of me counting Belterra.
