I was sitting here watching the end of this UCLA-USC game, which USC won, by the way. Listening to Bill Walton is like listening to a Cheech and Chong sketch. At one point there was an issue with the clock. It just stopped. The poor play by play guy is trying to explain that the officials had to go to the monitor to see if there had been a shot clock violation. Walton's answer was that they should just go back to where the clock stopped and give it to the team that had the ball. The play by play guy was explaining that play had continued for another 10 or more seconds and they can't just give it to the team who had it and do it all again, but Walton never got it. That guy's brain is like a bag full of cats.

As they were complimenting the Rooferee and his crew, they didn't catch how much time actually went off the clock which was 18-19 seconds in real time. Refs took only 11 seconds off the clock giving UCLA 7-8 seconds at the end when the game would have been over earlier.
Yep, I noticed that as well. The officials, which included our favorite rooferee, never did get it right. I think it was beyond their comprehension as well. And there is no way Walton could have figured it out. Dave Pasch, his play by play guy might have noticed it but he was too busy trying to talk sense into Bill.

I too was watching that game, but finally had to mute it because of the word vomit coming out of Waltons mouth. And hyping the Pac12 so much. Christ! It was worse than Dickie V calling a Notre Dame/ Duke game with guest coach's RMK, and flipping Roy the boy! How anyone can listen to that idiot explains how the Kardashians rake in millions.

Be hard to explain to the younger generation what a great college basketball player Bill Walton was.

I’m surprised that Dave Pasch hasn’t gone insane having to put up with Walton’s incoherent rambling for a few hours of a PAC 12 game frequently.

I think Walton is still hallucinating from all those drugs he used in the past.

Walton is hilarious. He’s up there with Barkley for me. Listening to him call a game and hearing him go off on a tangent about riding his bike up a mountain, or the Grateful Dead, or shrooms is always entertaining.

He probably do a better job eating some shrooms before calling games.

Perhaps Walton was speaking in a language
that only refs understand.

Walton would be just about right in terms of knowledge to entertainment value if he scaled the stoner part back a good 30%. He's ok for a while, but not in large doses. I'm all for you living that 420 24/7 life, but when it overtakes your ability to be a professional, it's become a problem.
I think even he knows that he's not there to be professional, but entertain & amuse....

Hard to believe that guy dropped one of the best games the NCAA tourney has ever seen. Passable NBA career. I guess that was all before he met Lucy in the Sky.

The entire Walton thing is a schtick with Pasch. As others have said above, he's perfect for the Pac 12 and that setting. What's hilarious is when he actually does talk basketball strategy, he's 100% correct and at a level so far beyond 95% of CBB coaches. He's absolutely correct when he says OFFENSE wins Championships in basketball. He's literally trolling the coaches and how the game is played/officiated most of the telecast. Listen to him call a game when official David Hall of the Pac 12 Conference is working-he goes in on him prior to the tip off. You don't have to play a drinking game.....just play Walton Bingo "Tim Kowasaki for the W" or the new addition this year when Pasch mentions "Luke is my 2nd favorite Walton behind Bill's wife Lori".

Walton's best fit was doing NBA games. He would make Steve "Snapper" Jones laugh his *** off during the telecast and those 2 were fantastic with Tom Hammond and just call out clown play/coaching decisions. Nothing like his "The fate of Western Civilization hangs in the balance of this Game 1 of Sonics-Nuggets" in 1st Round or declaring a game over when a team was up 6-2 in the opening stages of the 1st Quarter. My personal favorite was watching a Sixers/Pacers series and him calling out the awful play of Sixers PF Tyrone Hill by saying "Tyrone Hill, Get a rebound--one time, please" and "Can we get the stiffs off the court".

ASU is known for the Curtain of Distraction when opponents shoot fts at the bench of end in 2nd Halves. One time ASU had a skit where a fan dressed as Yoda and the opponent was UCLA and Walton made me spit out water as he told Pasch who mentioned they brought out Yoda "I thought that was Mick Cronin". He really mocked the strategies and coaching in the UCLA/ASU game last weekend that went 3 OT's--a lot of "that is the 7th worst possession in the history of UCLA basketball" references or "Why not draw a play up for a 30 ft fadeaway 3 in a tie game--great call".

If you venture into Walton's World--just know that he's doing this tongue in cheek and to entertain in games that most fans across the country wouldn't turn into watch.

When he first started calling games, he really annoyed me because it was so unprofessional and something I wasn't used to hearing. Lately, however, I couldn't agree more that he is wildly entertaining to me and I have found myself watching some of those west coast games I never would have watched before just to hear what kind of **** he'll come up with next. :D

I will tell you something about Walton, he is the only player in college basketball history that was a 3 time first team basketball all-american, and a 3 time first team academic all-american. He also knows 100 times more about basketball than anyone on this or any other basketball board. Unlike most announcers, Walton has fun doing a game. He has fun and is not all business. I happen to like listening to Walton. The only thing that I don't like about hearing over and over the conference of champions, but it is better than listening to those other announcers go on and on about how great duke is, even when they are not even playing.
