Bitcoin jumped 16% back to over $5000 in an hour this morning. Anyone here invested into cryptocurrencies? Thoughts?

Haven't invested. Wouldn't invest. There is nothing backing the valuation of the "currency". The U.S. dollar is backed by the intrinsic value of our nation as a whole. Crypto is backed by a dude in his mom's basement.

Blockchain, otoh, is something that is being adopted by many industries and companies and is the future of ledger accounting.

I bought some bitcoin when they were @ $3000 a while back and held on while the roller coaster ride took place. I've read a lot of the pros and cons but my take is that the people that actually understand how cryptos work (which isn't that many) think they are the future of monetary systems while those with conventional finance and market backgrounds tend to be more negative. The question is will bitcoin be the one that wins out or will it be one of the other alternative CCs like Ethereum? That's an even bigger debate.

Have to imagine a lot of folks are going to buy thinking "Not this time!".

my thoughts

- your graph is a sucker's graph... if you want to invest you buy if/when it reclaims its high at 20k which maybe sounds counter intuitive but just look at the damn graph man, what happens after a previous peak was hit again?

- there's nothing backing the valuation of any currency... ok, government and an army, but governments fail, armies are defeated.

- experts are idiots
