I went back and looked up Duke season block stats going all the way back to 1999. And the numbers are pretty insightful. Only 4 Duke players have had above 70+ blocks in a season. ( Brand, Battier, Shelden 3 times, Mcroberts)
1999: 245 Brand:86
2004: 240 Shelden 111 ridiculous
2005: 220 Shelden 128 ridiculous
2006: 202 Shelden 137 ridiculous
2001: 196 Battier 88
2000: 191
2003: 178
2010: 162
2007: 157 shockingly high, Mcroberts 82
2011: 157
2016: 155
2009: 146
2015: 145
2012 and 2013: 134
2008: 133
2002: 113 shockingly low
2014: 105
Well, clearly blocking alot of shots doesn't lead to titles haha. However, an argument can be made that the 1999 and 2004 teams are some of the best ever.
With a deep front line next year and possibly the #1 pick in the draft playing PF, maybe next years team can be in the upper pantheon in regards to blocking shots.
The last Duke team to crack the top half was...2010.
