I have never been big on bourbon but have an out-of-town family member that is.

He is looking for a bottle of Blantons without paying the premium.

any tips on finding this organically?

I tried once but they were out. Is there any type of schedule or a particular day/time to get it?
Gift Shop opens at 10. Line starts forming at 9:30. I got there at 9:45 on a Friday and waited 45 minutes between temperature check line and actual gift shop line. Went straight to checkout (another line to wait in) and they keep it there. Scan your DL, one bottle per 90 days.

I'm am older guy that's from Bardstown. This bourbon boom has ruined the quality. Stuff isn't aged like it should be. It's flavored. It's "fused" with other alcohol. It's stored in barrels from other alcohols. That stuff isn't bourbon. The last bourbon I got that tasted like true bourbon was a 10 dollar bottle of Old Fitzgerald.
That said I'd try Liquor Barn. They always have stock at the going rate. Try Kroger if you want to try and catch it on sale. Or while you're at Kroger get a bottle of Knob Creek 12 year 120 proof. It's $47 right now.

I agree with most of that Smed. But Liquor Barn is higher than a kite on their pricing. I won’t even go there anymore. Total Wine or Kroger.

Yeah Liquor Barn isn't my first choice. Come to think of it haven't been in one in 2 or 3 years. I usually go to Kroger or Meijer.

So you're saying that all of the distilleries are breaking federal laws?

No wasn't what I was saying. They took off the age statements on most stuff because it isn't aged like it was before. Like Elijah Craig. So we have no way to know how long it's been aged. And only bottled in bond is carefully monitored by the feds in regards to aging. From what I remember. Could be wrong. Elijah Craig 12 year from years ago tastes different than the new stuff that has no age statement. To me anyway.

You said "It's flavored. It's "fused" with other alcohol. It's stored in barrels from other alcohols."

According to federal law, bourbon must be stored in new oak barrels and no flavoring after the distilling process is allowed.

How do explain Jeffersons reserve old rum aged bourbon? Or Evan Williams Fired bourbon with cinnamon liquor added? Says bourbon right on the bottle cause I'm looking at my wife's bottle right now.

Rum aged or wine aged bourbons are "finished" in those barrels after it's taken out of the new oak barrels.

The label clearly states that it's bourbon that has been blended with cinnamon liqueur. Plus it's only 70 proof and bourbon must be bottled no lower than 80.

I think you should go back and read my first post again. I'm not going to argue Marijuana with you don't argue bourbon with me. All you've done is prove what I said.

I read it several times. You're making an industry wide generalization by using a select few products. Woodford, Maker's, Knob Creek, etc are not "flavored" or finished in different casks.

I think there should be better guidelines for the label, but the information is right there if you know how to interpret it.

I think you didn't understand what I said and tried to correct me on something I wasn't wrong about. They are flavoring bourbon and putting it in different barrels and so forth like I said.
Now if you don't agree about its impact on the quality of bourbon that's another discussion and one you weren't making. And if you don't agree that's fine. Just stick to what I said.

I guess I just misunderstood what you were saying. I read it as you were saying that industry wide they were flavoring in an attempt to duplicate the aging process.

I don’t know about Evan Williams Fire, but there Cider is stupid good! I’ve only found it at the gift shop though, and it is really good, for spiked cider.

Exactly how I read it. I was like "what the hell is this guy talking about" 😅

Youre both right and arguing two different points.

I'm not sure why anyone would read it like that. But a lot is lost in text form. At least you guys eventually deciphered it.

Yes, after you eventually elaborated further. No need to be a dick. A lot is lost in text form indeed. Acting like he was out on cloud 9 over it was a bit absurd. Its obvious where the miscommunication was, and its not really worth going on about further. Have a good Monday.

Total wine LG with a nice drop yesterday. Blantons, ER, WSR and OWA.

Missed the Antique by one person but always nice to score a Blantons at retail.

Headed to Columbus this weekend. First time bourbon hunting around the area.

Bardstown Bourbon Discovery #4 just released. About the only LE deliciousness you can find on a shelf at retail. Albeit retail is $130.

The premium on Blanton's isn't so high as to convince me to wait in a line or hunt for it. You can get it secondary locally for $80 or so. Well worth the $10 to avoid headaches.

ETA - I don't drink the stuff, Mashbill 2 is garbage. I prefer regular BT or ER to Blanton's.
