So of the 80 bowl teams needed, we started the day with 73 in. For the remaining 7 positions there were 11 teams with 5 wins needing one more win to be bowl eligible. To even have a chance, we needed 5 of these teams to lose and be eliminated. So far today 4 have lost (East Carolina, Kentucky, Old Dominion and Louisiana Layfette) with Minnesota and Illinois training by 2 touchdowns at the half. One would have to believe we very much have a chance to go bowling. While a small consolation to many, with what the seniors have had to endure I'm good with them going.

Yep - never turn down a bowl invite - bad karma. And it will be good for a new coaching staff to get any extra time with the players to get ready for next year.

You don't think that time would be better served going after recruits? This season is a loss, why not move on to the next one. The best we will get is some bowl nobody, including the players, care about. All it is is a vacation for them. Bowls were meant as a reward for a good season. Not sure this team qualifies.

12-15 to 1-14 is the Dead Period. So no, they can do both like every other coaching staff does.

I would sure expect they have the ability to do both. I don't think bowl teams typically suspend recruiting efforts in the 4 weeks preparing for a bowl.

All it is is a vacation for them... You may not think they deserve it but after this season, there isn't anything wrong with a little reward for the guys. Let them get extra practices and have some fun.

isn't the pittsburg area historically , where all the great passing qb's come from?

we need a bowl there, and a lot of qb recruits showing up

I hate the idea of teams at 5-7 going bowling. That said, I believe we're a solid RB and a good QB away from being a highly competitive team. We need the practice that the extra month offers, so I hope we get an offer and accept.

Agree on the 5-7 part but you can also add better offensive line and considering how many losses we had in the last 15 seconds that we should have came out on top and being this is Riley first year here I'm all for it except we need to play more then one QB.

Sounds like at least one 5-7 team is in. Get ready for all the snide remarks on ESPN if we are it.

Almost certainly will be. Stewart mandel said at least 2 and upwards of 5 I believe will get bids. Named us specifically as being a team that would get one.

Agreed. The extra practice is good for the team. Also can provide invaluable chemistry time for the team and coaches which can be important for next season.

Someone has to go in at 5-7, so may as well be us.

I'm not on the 5-7 bowl bandwagon either, but IF Nebraska gets the invite, then I would say what the heck, play in it.
