Bowl season - pretty much a letdown

A lot of matchups (early) that I cared absolutely nothing about (WAC vs. AAC, for example). The better matchups between the Big 5 teams have been a letdown, too. A lot of blowouts. Rose Bowl was awful unless you were a fan of Stanford. Alamo Bowl was unbelievable and a couple of others were good games but many were 2 TDs+. SEC has looked great. Having the CFP games on NYE plus both games being one-sided really sapped my patience for NYD bowl games. I saw where ratings were down 45% from last year. Well, duh, only idiots put the CFP games on before NYD and opposite all the NYE entertainment options (including going out for the evening as my wife and I did). Hope the championship game will be worth the wait.

For whatever reason I thought it was the poorest bowl season in years. there were so few games to hold your interest, is it a product of the 4 team playoff or something else? Maybe an 8 team playoff and cut the number of bowls, WKU's game was one of the most entertaining games of all, TCU last night was ....well I don't know what to call it exactly, weird is the best I can do.

While this year's games were more lopsided than in most years, I love the bowls and don't want to see anything done that will reduce the number of games. Three solid weeks of college Football is the best three weeks of the sports year. Now that it's over, it's time to hibernate until MLB season begins....unless Ky makes it to the final four.

That is usually the way I feel( I am a big college sports fan, both football and basketball) but this year didn't seem quite the same. I think I put so much emotional energy into UK making a bowl(we had it right there in our hands, but like our WR's we dropped it) that when we didn't I was done.

One thing that I think helped make this a crappy bowl season is because how unbalanced the conferences divisions were. The ACC Atlantic was way better than the Coastal. The Big 10 East was much beer the the West and the SEC West was way better than the East. It skews the standings and then the bowl matchups.

Pretty much the way I feel gamecock. I seemed to have less energy for it this year than ever. I think the bowl conference tie ins plus the low eligibility bar (i.e., 6 win) is creating some bad/uninteresting match ups. Tickets, let alone other travel and attendance costs, are getting crazy expensive. Furthermore if you are trying to be a "good" fan and buy tix from your school's required allotment you are probably going to be stiffed with bad seats. All in all it just doesn't seem to have the pizzaz it had 15 years ago.

Peace

The bowls were pretty bad. I watched the SEC games and enjoyed watching those massacres. Still have the national title game, NFL playoffs, college basketball conference games, NCAA, etc. I'll even get into NBA and NHL playoffs when they come. Baseball is fine, but as a Cardinals fan I do not have high hopes for this season or the future as far as winning titles are concerned. June and July are probably the two most boring months for me with just baseball pretty much.

I voted the straight party line, I mean I bet on all the SEC teams as usual, and loved the blowouts, even won a small parlay which I don't usually bet. The only game I can't get over is betting on Oregon, up 31-0 at the half and end up losing the bet.

Well the SEC and ACC weren't even close as it turns out. For a down SEC to set the record for most bowl wins in a conference just goes to show that any talk of it being down was just talk. A&M wins going away if it has its second team QB

It's weird that the SECW last year was 'the' best division in CFB and stunk it up in bowl season. This year, all the talk was 'SEC is down' and both the East and West have shined. Bowl matchups are really a toss-up.

jauk: SVP has a segment every night on 'Bad Beats' where a very close bet goes against you (last second shot in a meaningless game that covers, etc.). Gotta say an Oregon bet has to be the 'Bad Beat' of the Year. What a crazy game. No way in hell anyone could have predicted that one, even after Adams got hurt. Just a few first downs and Oregon wins. You have my sympathy, sir.

I thought I was being pretty smart when I decided to change my Oregon/TCU pick to Oregon after Boykin was suspended. At halftime, I was certain that I was a genius. Starting the fourth quarter, I was still quite sure I had made the right choice.

Now, not so much! At least I'm only in a $5 per person pool, and that game was worth only 1 point....
