Now that we are finally getting similar money to the rest of the teams we play (although still less for a few more years), we can hire better coaches and build better facilities, and finally we are passing the athletic programs that we expected to in the Big Ten, based on our alumni, location, recruiting territory, university, etc - Purdue, Indiana, Northwestern, Minnesota. Next up the likes of Illinois, Iowa. I think our long term level is in the tier of Michigan State, Wisconsin, PSU. Of course then there’s the god tier of OSU and Michigan which will be hard to ever catch let alone surpass but maybe someday.

Rutgers has a long, long way to go to pass IU and Purdue in basketball long term.
