We have 18 games left in SEC play. We're 9-3. The magic number we need to get to in order to lock ourselves into the NCAA tournament is 15. I think, because of our extremely high RPI, we have some wiggle room there and as little as 13 likely still gets us in, but we need to shoot for at least 15. So, 6 more wins. That means that as long as we don't get swept by anyone we're very likely in the NCAA tournament. We win a series like the TAMU one and we have an even better cushion on getting to that 15 number or greater. I think if we get to the 18 mark, so finish .500, then we are likely hosting an NCAA regional.
Yeah to this point we’ve probably played a bit over our talent level, caught miss state at a great time and in favorable weather to us, but we may have done enough early to flail some on the back end and still get in. Winning the bama series and getting all 3 vs mizzou were big gets.
Agree. We need to beat Louisville and can't get swept by LSU.
I think the UL game is not overly important. It is padding, but that is mostly it. The SEC schedule is the real straw the stirs the drink. Finish with 15 wins in the conference and we're a lock to the NCAA tournament. Finish with 16 or more and we're talking about hosting. 18 and we're a lock to host given that we'd probably be top 3 or 4 in the conference. A game like UL helps pad the resume, but I don't think it makes or breaks it. So, I'd rather see those 2 wins come this weekend than I would 1 of them tomorrow night. Of course, I'll take 4 wins either way. haha
I agree with this, though I think we are likely to host even at 16 or 17 SEC wins. Win 18 or 19 and it's national top 8 seed and hosting a super. It's critical to avoid sweeps in road series at LSU and Vandy, win our home series against A&M and split the 6 games with South Carolina and Florida at home (or better).
