The Oklahoman reports that Mixon's assault video can be made public by a ruling of the Oklahoma Supreme Court.
The potential repercussions of this could be extreme.

Scroll down to the bottom of this piece for COMMENTS. Some are interesting; others, not much. IMO, if it's going to come out, now would be the best time. Sooner Nation is focused on The Thunder, and it will not be the Big Story on the Sports Page...Plenty of time for the dust to settle before Kickoff-2016...

I'm not concerned about the Sooner Nation as much as ESPN reviving the incident. I just can't see how this is going to come out anyway but badly for Mixon, the team and particularly Bob, Joe and Boren. When there isn't anything to report about college football something like this coming back is a big deal.

Maybe we can revive the Baylor rape thing and Mississippi State payola thing.

Oh, and don't forget the NC academic fraud thing. Let's see ... oh yeah, the entire SEC cheating thing.

Lots of **** flying around out there. The Joe thing is small potatoes in comparison.

Release the damn thing.
Like a bad penny it keeps coming up, kind o like the adventures of Bruce Jenner.

Just get it over with.
Better an end with dread than a dread with no end.

I wished they had released it immediately after the sentencing rather than 2 two years after the incident. But I agree if is going to come out, the Sooner the better!

I see no way this will hurt Bob Stoops (you reading this Plano?) Joe, and Boren unless he screws up again. He's already done very well for two years w/o any issues. If anything, I think it'll shine a light on the situation on Stoops & Co. Mixon, on the other hand Mixon slides down the draft pole.

In an age of paper-thin sensitivity, you may be wishfully thinking.
Not passing judgement of this situation, but if the Mike Lupicas start crawling out from under their rocks upon this video's release, this will escalate into another Ray Rice episode....at the very least....even though Mixon did not physically initiate the confrontation.

WNAS. I hope you are right, but if the video is as bad as has been described I think all the OU haters as well just college fans everywhere may question why Mixon was allowed to stay on at OU. Oh, I remember now. 5*

The only common ground of Ray Rice & Joe Mixon was the hitting of a female. EVERYTHING else is completely different and I suspect that after the intial shock factor this will come into play. Age, who hit who, why, etc. Huge differences. Hell I'm a Dallas Cowboy fan. This aint nothing. ;) Seriously, on a very personal level this can be only as bad as one allows it to be. It won't be pretty initially but Bob Stoops is a good man & people know this. He has a track record of being a good guy when necessary & tough when necessary. If he thought Mixon was worthy of returning who am I to say otherwise. Actually who is anyone? (You reading this Plano?) Haters are always gonna hate. The kid has been good to go for two years. So far Bob has been right with this thing. Bottomline, Sooner haters will always find a reason to hate on OU. This is just a blip on the map in the grand scheme of things. I hope it motivates the crap out of Mixon and think it will. As a people, we like giving others a 2nd chance.

5 star? I have no problem with this. None. Nada. If you're going to make a decision on what player can be given a 2nd chance, it damn well better be someone that can contirbute vs someone who won't/can't. The decision has too much risk for future failure to not attach a big reward to it.

You are missing the entire point. It's not how OU fans feel that is the issue. It's the negative perception of the program that's at risk. I could care less what OU fans really feel because I know fans will forgive and accept a Sooner 99% of the time. But a video image is powerful and i hate that there must be more negativity brought upon the program; however, I accept there is nothing that can be done to avoid it now. That's my point. I'm not challenging your right or decision to support Mixon, Bob, Boren or Joe C. I'm glad you do and feel that at this point it's best that all Sooner fans do so as well. But as the OP's title suggests, it may be nasty. Boomer!

P. S. I dig that you are throwing out the olive branch to another message board regular. I caught that. Nice. :)

I maintain that the number of stars had little to do with this, and Stoops' decision to retain Joe.
Stoops is a character guy, as such he'd have given a 3 star the same opportunity for redemption, assuming they'd displayed the same sorrowful contrition that Mixon did.
IMO.

I agree 100%. That's never been Stoops' M.O. to make decisions on potential or rankings. If that was the case, Bomar wouldn't have been exiled. Some of the messages on here can be just as sensationalistic as the articles trying to drum up hits and views.

I understand where you are coming from, but Bob Stoops was not a Bomar fan. If you don't believe it just research what Bob's comments were when Bomar was voted MVP of the bowl game. I have no issue with how Bob manages his team, but not every player gets the same treatment. I know that for a fact. But that's okay with me. No a complaint. He does what he feels is best.

I forget who said it, but I believe it wholeheartedly; "The most unfair thing you can do is treat everyone exactly the same". At the time, I thought Mixon should have been booted. I'm glad that he's taken care of business since the incident, but I'm still not sure that keeping him around was the right decision.
