Great - the savior is coming…

Will the team have anyone over 6’6” besides hunger in a couple of years?

Nicholson and Hunger have 3 and 4 years of eligibility.
At this point, both are unproven.

I am sure more will come. And, in line with NU's recruits, will need a couple of years at a minimum to be decent contributors. We have not had any transfers or bigs that were solid. Guards yes, bigs, no.

So we will be unbalanced, very unbalanced. Even worse if one or both Hunger/Nicholson never develop or transfer.

But I suppose it won't matter. CC will likely be gone. If not, his is a guard game that has served us well.

He's got a nice looking jumper, albeit a little slow to get it off. Will have to speed up the release at NU.

Aren’t both 5’s? Four guards and one of them?
Big Matt has 2 regular years, plus the Covid year exemption.
Luke Hunger has 4 years.

Beran and Verhoeven have one season to play.

Martinelli is a freshman, 6'7" or 6'8". Hoping he can play.
and sophomore Brooks Barnhizer...

Then there's freshmen Gus Hurlburt (at 6'9") and Blake Smith (6'6"). They don't have the credentials normally associated with Big Ten starters.

The article about Parker Strauss says Collins is targeting THREE GUARDS AND A WING for the Class of 2023.

If that holds true, we will be thin not only at the 3, but also the 4.

Verhoeven is the only player on the roster definitively in his final season. Beran has another year of eligibility after this one if he wants it, as do Audige and Buie.

Is this correct... The NCAA always gave athletes 5 years to complete 4 full seasons of competition, but decided that the first Covid season doesn't count (as a full season) and gave everybody 6 years to complete 4 full seasons?

In other words, anybody who was on a roster in 2020-21 gets to (potentially) play 5 seasons, as long as they do it within 6 years after starting college?

And grad school (Audige, Young, Beran and Nance) is no different than undergrad when it comes to eligibility? All 4 of those guys got their undergrad degrees in June.

It sounds like Beran is planning on playing two more years!

Correct, everyone who played in 2020-21 gets an extra year of eligibility. Verhoeven is about to play his 5th full season of college hoops. And as long as you meet NCAA requirements for coursework, it doesn't matter if you're an undergrad or a grad student. So long as he remains enrolled in a grad program, Beran can play two more years if he wants, whether at NU or elsewhere.

He's a stat sheet stuffer and defensive specialist which fits the Wildcat mode well!

Speaking of the class of 2023, is there any news on Blake "Don't call me Charles" Barkley, the Putnam CT kid who committed but didn't sign? We could use his size coming in.

He retweeted the NU hoops account after the MSU win, but not since… … …

Man, NU didn’t get a big. Yuck.

He hasn't tweeted much this year, His team has played a few games and no updates on that

Hopefully, not a big social media guy and all is well.

NU needs him.

I'd give him seven unicorns 🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄 just for having two last names.

Seriously, I hope this kid can shoot the lights out from the arc. That's what this team needs.
He’s averaging 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists per game, all team highs, on a team that’s 15-8. He’s attempting fewer than 10 shots a game. I don’t see 3-pt shooting separated out but he’s shooting 43% overall.

Still wondering about this…could we have him sitting in Purple Purgatory waiting on the decisions of Boo, Chase and Beran? Is there room for him if all three return along with an incoming transfer to replace TV?

He is a very good player. The only thing that I can’t get a feel for on the limited video out there is his overall athleticism.

In reading about him and his stats, he seems like a guard version of Tyler Wahl at Wisconsin. He’s not a volume scorer but is a winning player that fills the box score.

I guess anything is possible.

I didn’t think there’d be any chance of any of them returning in 2023-24 heading into this season, but if they do the improbable and make the NCAA Tournament, maybe they’ll want to run it back again.

Cats have 10 out of 13 schollie in use. Two signed commits minus VH means there are two more schools unused for next season in this moment regardless of Chad, Boo and Beran. They leave and we are at a lower number than this year.

(I don’t count diving walk on players unused schollie as real schollies)

To be precise, Cats have 11 since Roy Dixon III got a scholarship this season. But he'll be gone after this year.

At this point he has to wait until the spring signing period. All his questions should be answered by then

I don’t count that. I know it’s there. But it’s not a real scholarship athlete and his use at NU highlights it. It’s a ‘I can’t find anyone to come to NU so I’ll throw a practice player a bone.’

Maybe Turk can hire him to mow his lawn.

Seriously, that's an odd thing, but he's a young guy who is just starting to make his way in the world.

The CTA just offered a deal on the purple line platform.

They added they do not have the budget to extend it to the red line.

Or even if they come up just short and think they could get it done next year
