He shoots from his chin. I hope he’s a point guard that still has growth in his game.

Was the leading scorer at an efficient rate for a terrific program during the Peach Jam, so that's encouraging. But yeah, that's a really low release point.

Didn't we have a player a few years ago with a low, awkward release who did rather well for us? John somebody.

Low release point when 6'10" >> low release point when 6'3"

At 6'3, an undersized shooting guard with no offers from other P6 programs.

I hate posts like yours. You either trust the coaches or you don't. It took me about 1 minute to find the following:

Played on high level AAU team and shot 40% from 3. Selected to play in Indiana Kentucky all star game after his Jr. year and scored 25 points. This is from the Indy star, naming him an early contender for Mr. Indiana:

"The 6-3 Windham came off the bench most of the season for the 33-0 and Class 4A state champion Giants and earned a spot as a core member of the Junior All-Stars team, averaging 8.6 points and shooting 36.4% from the 3-point line. Windham is a talented player who should take on a bigger role for the Giants next season with several key seniors gone to graduation."

I found this tidbit from the Illinois Rivals site:

"After a big summer running with Illini commit Morez Johnson with Meanstreets, 6-foot-3 wing
KJ Windham may be inches towards and Illinois offer. The Illini are looking for shooting, and Windham was on a heater from downtown this summer, shooting 40 percent from three.

Northwestern and a growing list of mid-major programs have offered Windham including Akron, St. Louis, Miami (Ohio), Richmond, Murray State, and others. Illinois is monitoring Windham and will continue to watch him closely at Ben Davis HS in Indianapolis this winter."

Here's another write up:

KJ Windham (#135 in 2024)
2024 | 6’3” Guard | Ben Davis (IN) & Meanstreets (EYBL)

Top-135 2024 guard KJ Windham has added offers from Richmond, Tulsa, SIU, Northwestern, St. Louis, Rice and more during July alone. He was a vital piece to Meanstreets deep run at Peach Jam given his averages of 14.8 PPG, 3.5 RPG & 2.0 APG in Augusta. One of the faster rising prospects in the Midwest who continues to attract new programs into his recruitment.

Windham has made notable strides physically over the last year & he provides a direct impact on winning. Aggressive athlete at the point of attack with a quick first step & swift changes of direction. Smooth shotmaker with a fluid release off the catch, plus he flashed improving confidence as a pull-up scorer throughout the spring. His hard-nosed, aggressive rim finishing also allow him to be a dynamic threat in the open floor & transition. Willing downhill playmaker who can comfortably create off the dribble-drive when attacking the rim. Laterally quick & scrappy on-ball defender who has the foot speed to guard in space.

You know who else fits this same recruiting profile - 1/2 of NU's roster last year - but the closest comp in offers is former Cat and Duke Center Ryan Young.
Thanks! My statement was not intended to say he won't work out, more of a what it looks like on paper. Steph Curry was overlooked and was 6'2.

Then my apologies, I saw it as a this kid won't be any good because he's not ranked in the top 100 and has a low release point. So I pointed out recent comments to address that. FWIW, he could be either but I am starting to gain a level of trust in Collins recent recruiting.

It certainly came off as snarky since, well, all that other information was available “on paper” also.

Not expert at all but my belief is the women could teach the men a lot about how a low release point improves 3 point shooting.

I understand that. And accept it. But personally don't really put a lot of value on that other information since positive info can usually be found on just about any recruit. What I said was 100% true and factual. But I should have added that I put value in the staff's evaluation. While I have been a big critic of CC around here, I have also been a defender of his value as a recruiter.

I am a fan or Martinelli, been a Nicholson guy before the cool kids discovered him. Overlooked seems to work for us, as well or better than ranked guys.

This topic illustrates why I rarely comment on any recruit. It is kind of pointless till they start playing. And often pointless until sophomore season. We can argue a lot of logical stuff, but it really remains to be seen and evaluated till a dude plays.

I’m an NU fan. I believe until evidence that suggests otherwise smacks me in the face like a 2 x 4.

H.J., After a summer from hell we can use some blind faith or for that matter, Blind Faith.
Ginger Baker is not walking through that door. Not sure that the remaining septuagenarians would bring much to the court either.

“Can’t Find My Way Home,” is an appropriate theme song for NU sports this summer, with or without Ginger Baker.
