What a roller coaster day it's been. From a near certainty last night. To the seemingly miraculous survival of the Pac 12 this morning. To the death of the Pac 12 this afternoon.

Their exit likely assures Arizona will flee to the Big 12, with ASU and Utah in tow.

That leaves Cal, Stanford, Oregon State and Washington State flapping in the breeze.

Roller coaster is right!

What would you do of you were the other schools? The leftovers.

Grab SDSU and a couple others and be satisfied as a "group of 5" type conference?

Saw one article that listed Stanford, Cal, SDSU, CSU, Memphis, SMU, Oregon State, Washington State, Tulane and Boise State as teams who are left out in the cold in all of this.

Stanford and Cal could possibly be picked up by the Big 10 if they want to lock up California, though they don't add much to the conference and would likely lead to decreased per school payouts. But those are the only two. All the others have no options.

This likely eliminates the Big 10 adding any schools in the southeast. If there were logistical concerns for adding west coast teams, it becomes a veritable logistical nightmare to add teams from the southeast.

Could easily see Cal and Stanford join the Mountain West for athletics and associate with the B1G in a BTAA membership. They would bring enough research funding to be mutually beneficial to the schools and the B1G without the B1G having to cut its TV distribution to its athletic members.

That would make sense.

Given the move by the Big 10 to add Oregon and Washington, I don't really see the need for the SEC to make any other moves. Big 10 revenue isn't likely to increase by much because of the moves. Neither of these are stellar additions that force the SEC's hand. In my opinion.

Too far away to impact the SEC much if at all. The only thing that may perk up the ears of Sankey is if the ACC blows up, which is not going to happen IMO for at least a couple of years. And I would bet that both the SEC and the B1G already have contingent plans when or if that happens.
